there isn't one from the factory, beyond the rod bolts, and valvetrain.

There is no rev limiter in the stock chip. They are power limited and choked down with a tiny exhaust and poor intake. That in itself will keep the revs from getting out of hand. Peak power is rouhgly at 4500 rpm so there is no need to let it rev any higher inbetween shifts. You can can program a fuel cut-off into a the chip though. I believe it was JP who set a rev limit of 1500rpm and a speed limit of 25mph for his vallet setting. Ha.

Yeah, like the other guys said, and even if you do go crazy with the revs, you likely won't do any real damage because you will float the valves.

I have seen someone take a high mileage L05 in a tahoe start it, stick a brick on the pedal, and leave it, 30 minutes later the engine was still runing. After 45 it ran out of gas. Those don't have RPM limiters. It was simply limited to about 6,800 rpm due to cam timing, head, valve float, and exhaust flow. Engine just would not die. When the engine was torn apart the bearings were even in good condition.

If you really want one I think it is possible to program one in. I'm sure Dewey and RBob know more about this than I do though.

RBob or Prevost (off the top of my head, I don't recall who it was) wrote a patch for a rev limiter, it converts the speed limiter, to work as a rev limiter. I have it around here somewhere...I can look for it and post it when I find it.
