COMputer improvements
92 TBI 700r4. got rid of the AIR injection system, dunno if EGR is working or not, still have the air pump, havent gotten a shorter serpentine belt yet. also i have a posi. runnin a 15.6-7 at the track and everything else is stock as far as i know, here's the clincher..
1) drove my freinds camaro which is identical to mine cept more miles and in rougher condition, but it is COMPLETELY stock, everything is there and untouched. his is faster,,, it has a significant amount of low end torque over mine.
2) we get the same gas mileage so i dont think he just has a gear in the back, pretty sure we both have the 2.73's, i know i do.
3) my car idles high like around a 1000-1200, and my computer is stock, my base timing is advanced so that it's on the last notch of the teeth above the dampener, thinks thats like 12 deg. ATD.
im thinkin its the lack of computer tuning, any thing else that it could be that i might be able to do something about and how hard would it be to get my computer tuned to deal with my mods?

12* advanced base timing is WAY TOO MUCH for a stock motor. Im running 8* with the mods in my sig and i wouldnt go any higher. Back the timing to 2-4* advance and im sure the car will run alot better. Also, if u are running 12* timing and a low octane fuel you could be hurting your motor, get that timing down ASAP.

wondered about that.
also, car had an engine fire awhille back and the injector wires got fried. left em on causse they worked. then an injector quit qorking one night, felt like i was driving a ford... anyways i replaced the wires with ones off my parts car which were just fine but someone said that you cant do that cause of increased resistance,, im thinking this could be fixed in the computer too. am i right?

I wouldnt worry too much about the injector wires so long as you soldered them good and properly insulated them with shrinkwrap insulation.
As for the computer, tuning will always help, even on a stock motor.

I agree you should back your timing down a lot. also he could be running faster for a lot of reasons.
My cars good at between 4* an 6* but for the health of the engine it's at 4*. 6* is much crisper though.
If you look on the diy programmin page theres enuff info on the prominator. Takes a lot of looking and reading though.
did you change your ignition leads after the fire..?
engine and fire can't be good for your motor.
also everyone here says the tachometer can be way off but could be a vacum leak. I'd check all over the Throttle body..
hope you figure it out

tach reads 2000 even at 75 mph. stock gears in the back and a 700r4.
timing could prob be helped..
wouyld the lack of injection system be hurting me?
