Speed limiters in code, the real deal


BCC cut resume
ANLU 255 255
ANTR 115 110
ANTS 115 110
ANTT 115 110
ANTV 255 255
APFN 115 110
AUML 255 255
AXKS 108 106
AXKT 108 106
AXKU 108 106
AXKW 108 106

That's in MPH. So check your BCC on your chip and now you know.
The AX series followed the AN so it looks like GM was lowering the speed limiter, I wonder why.
Keep in mind this is not for the 88 year TBI's, only 89-92 thirdgens, caprice, and classics.
There are a few more but I don't have the bins so I can't compare them. If you have something different then please post the BCC. Thanks and your welcome.

I'm not to sure about this one but I think the speed limiter are related to the speed rating of the tires of that year

Well that doesn't work out because if anything the speed ratings were better on average with newer cars. Also the same bin is used in the cars with the 15" rims as the 16"s so that doesn't work out. What does follow is the rear end ratio, fed/cali emissions, engine size (caprice 5.0/5.7), and stick/auto. Then obviously the years where they made "upgrades" to the calibration. The AN seem to be the early calibrations and the AX the later. If you do a comparison between the ones that cam on the same car only different emissions or what not you can see what GM did different. It's actually pretty interesting (and confusing).

I would have to lean towards the speed rating of the tires as well. The 16's on the RS only got 235/55/16 I think S rated tires for 112 mph, right where mine cuts off.

I would have to lean towards the speed rating of the tires as well. The 16's on the RS only got 235/55/16 I think S rated tires for 112 mph, right where mine cuts off.
My 16's got 245/50/16 tires, not positive the original speed rating, they're Z's now.

And the speed limiter on the TPI's are where? What speed rating did they get?

Maybe, I never heard that before. I have the window sticker back at home, I could have sworn it said 245's. Oh well, I'll have to check out that sticker sometime. I wonder why they would do that on RS models, they just cheaped out on everything with our cars ha.

I believe the non G92 cars are 112 as well.

I couldn't help but notice that you didn't mention the 88's.(well you did, but you made it sound like they didn't have a limiter)

I have an 88, and I can assure you it stops pulling at around 108, although at that point the speedometer is moving back and forth between 105 and 110, so iI'm assuming that it's around 108.

also, my car came with 15" wheels and now has the stock 16" wheels on it, and I haven't really noticed a difference in the limit.

I'm not sure if that's helpful to anyone at all, I just figured I'd mention it.

oh, it also might be important to mention that I"m not sure if I have the original automatic in the car, I know it CAME with an automatic but there's a part of the wiring harness that's supposed to connect to the transmission and there's no plugin for it...local mechanic shop said it was a speed sensor, and that they figured the transmission had been switched out for another year camaro's auto.

so, maybe the automatic is from an 89+, and I'm just wrong.

This thread is ten years old? You should ask this in a new thread, or search for BCC (broadcast code) which is printed on a sticker attached to your ECM.
