Different Thermostat housings on L03?
Hey guys,
I was in a scrap yard a few days ago and noticed a L03 with a different thermostat housing that the one that I have. I didnt think much of it. I just figured that the owner had put a different one on there after the stocker broke. But, I have seen some photos on this website of other L03's and I have seen that same housing on other cars! Whats the deal? It looks like the housings that I have been seeing have a valve on them to let out air from the cooling system? Why would some L03's have it and some not?
Just wondering,
Mark B

I don't beleive any of the F-Car LO3's ever had that, that opening is for a temp sensor.

In the picture below... I see the temp sensor that you are talking about... But what is that part to the right of the temp sensor. I looks like something that I had on my LT1 powered Z28.

wow, what did they do to that poor car.
it looks like he is using the port in the housing for a fan switch, and the stock location for the temp sensor. The second port, is bizar, but that housing is FAR from stock.
the stocker looks something like this.

That housing is from an 86 Monte Carlo SS, carbed. It used to have the thermal vacuum switches and all that in there. I had to use that setup, because when I swapped the engine, I could not get the fan switch out of the pass head. (rounded out the 5/16" plug) I have recently changed that setup, and actually put the temp sender in the housing, and the fan switch in the driver's head.
Whenever I junk those crappy TBI heads for the L98's, I will put everything back in it's stock location, and use the stock housing.
Thanks for the compliments on how it looks, but at least it works for now.
Dewey, I love the intake and adapter you have setup. What intake is that? I'd take that thermo housing off and polish it up. It will clean up real nice.

It is a Weiand Team-G 7525, It is a Low-Rise single plane intake, that actualy has EGR provisions. It really is the ultimate TBI intake, since it has a Big plenum, is signle plane, is short enough to fit under a f-car hood, and has EGR provisions for those who need it for emmisions.
The bad news is, that I do not think it is available anymore. I know summits web-site shows it is as not available anymore. If you were interested, you could contact holley/weiand to see if you can still get one.
BTW, the adaptor is the holley adaptor.

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
I have that t-stat housing on my camaro. I got it from Checker. The holes are for sensors that our cars don't usually use. I just kept the plugs in them and added a little rtv to make sure they would not leak. But I thought it looked pretty strange when they gave it to me. Fit like a glove though.
