The ammount of clearence youll have depends on the hood but the aircleaner is very close to the underside of the stock hood. Adding anything will make it even closer. Most aftermarket hoods should give you more clearence. Guess it comes with the territory that a low slung car like a thirdgen will have clearence issues under the hood.

Just try a different dropped base air cleaner. I installed my 1" TB spacer and had to get a different air cleaner. Its a MR Gasket 1 or 1.5" high air cleaner assembly.

I'm planing on an open element with a dropbase but i wanted to make sure that i won't have the same problems becuase the air cleaner assbl. i want is a k&n extrem open element and open lid (about $120) and i don't want to rub all the paint of it. Plus the rattle sound from under the hood is getting bothersome.

I bought a drop base air cleaner from Kragen/Checker auto parts, made by Specter, 20 bucks, with filter. Barely cleared my coil wires, so I notched the metal in the back a bit, so if there was contact it would be with the edge of the filter gasket, notched just enough so the gasket still sealed--cut a V shaped wedge out of the bottom of the cleaner. Clears my wires by a quarter inch, but I still check it now and again.
Might be what you are lookin for. Plus, you can most likely throw a K&N filter in there too, even though it comes with a decent paper filter.
Wouldn't drive it too much without fixing that situation, or take out the spacer for now, or sawzall out the offending piece of hood reinforcement if you can, problem solved! Good luck.

I could take out that piece of the hood ! i never even thought of that. Plus it will shed some wieght off the front. No one really uses thier hood as a seat so that sould be the problem solver.
