So I got my Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner Today....
I got my dual snorkel air cleaner today and I relized this thing flows like crap!
First of all its drop base, so that means you have to use that spacer ring around the TBI wich restrickes air flow.
Second, there is a flap inside the snorkels that also restricks air flow. Why is this thing there?
Becuase of this poor air flow I am thinking about either selling it, or modding it.
If I mod it, I will convert it to flat base, gut out the flaps, and get a different lid so I can use a bigger air filter.
What do you guys think about this? Has anyone done this mod? Or should I just sell it and keep the open element?

I would keep it and modify it a bit. You can cut that flap out. That is for the thermac device but I am sure you have gotten rid of it if you have an open element. I have never seen the assembly up close so I cannot compair it. It is hard to beat the ol' non drop base open element. Personally, I would only use the dual snorkel for looks.

If you already have a K&N open element and K&N lid I wouldn't switch over to dual snorkel. You aren't going to gain anything and you probably dropped a few bucks on that K&N setup.

Possibly, I've heard dual can possibly give more hp than Open due to the colder denser air. But havent seen any dyno runs proving this. I heard cowl induction set up on the birds is the best way to go.

Damn, I wish I could take my car to the dragstrip and do a dual snorkel vs. open element test. It would finally settle this dispute!

I'm curious why did you choose dual snorkel over open element? And have you done any modifactions to get it to fit?

I like the look of the dual snorkel. When I decided to change to it I knew right away that I would chrome it.
No modifications needed. It fits right over the throttle body.

Mine is still black.. I removed the flame arrestor from mine, cleaned it all up, drilled and mounted the sensor that goes in it.. I noticed a slight improvement over the stock single snorkel.. it sounds better also.. when you compair the two, the dual has way more volume in just the one side.. then you double it.. equals more cold air into the engine.. I like it. I kept the functional thermacs. and the original TBI lid.. the one that actually went with it didn't fit.

Why did you leave your thermac device intact? Thats also hurts air flow.

The overflow tank is not removed. It is on the other side. I guess that is one mod I had to do. I no longer have a washer tank. I also took off the diverter valve. It is kinda in the way but it will work with it on.
I left the spacer ring on because I think it may hit the distributer if I take it off.
As far as the thermac, I didn't care about it. Even with the thermac it flows better than the single snorkel and probably more than a 450 cfm or so TBI can handle.

My 5.0 decal was already on the assembly.
As far as the plastic scoops and hoses, I got them all but the local Chevy dealer except the drivers side scoop. The stopped making it and I believe the have since stopped making all of them. So I picked it up on the internet. They are on e-bay every now and then. Expect to pay dearly for it. I bid $182.50 for one and got out bid.

I don't think people realize this, but you can buy the hoses and scoops brand new from year one. The hoses are like $20 and the scoops are like $12.

yearone doesnt have them, i posted that awhile ago thinkin they did.
I contacted an aftermarket company that makes dual snorkel cleaners and asked them how much they were selling the LH and RH snorkels for and they said $80-90 each. on OEM parts, they supposedly had a large supply of Snorkels but they werent gonna let em go cheap. yea you can buy the regular snorkels real cheap but they arent the same part # as the ones for the L69 H.O. cleaners those snorkels (like azvolfan) has have a larger opening, and the ducts are larger as well.

if you goto their website yearone you will see they no longer have them. the only ducts they have are the replacement ducts for the stock replacement cleaner.
RAMAIRBOX this is the aftermarket company, since it was about 6 months ago when i contacted them i doubt if they have the OEM ducts. looks can deceive. "Part # 14070917LH / 14070918RH Intake size 4" oval Exhaust size 4" flat Length 14" Material Plastic" at bottom of page.

I got the last 2 right side scoops that RAMAIRBOX had
in conjunction with my dual snorkel air cleaner I use: 84 El Camino K&N filter (taller) and the cleaner lid from a '79 corvette.
For spares:
I also have the dual snorkel cleaner from said vette and a right side scoop for the system, also a modified left side scoop from the LO3.

I also check with YearOne when I was doing the dual snorkel install, and they did NOT have them. Even though they said they did.
