Put the stocker air cleaner on...

You heard me right... I took off my open element today and replaced it with the stocker. All the cool sucking noises are gone, and the car seriously struggles to get up to a good rpm. The car responds entirely different than the way it did with the open element (its now even more sluggish ).

Point of this story is: the stock air cleaning system is horrible. My dad refuses to believe that the open element gives me any more response over the stock one. He says that the open element is just breathing in hot air, and is probably making worse power.

Now, next weekend I plan on modifying the stocker into a ram air system using a TPI intake snorkle. I will post pics when I finish. If you have to stock air cleaner on your car still, consider an open element or at the very least, a dual snorkle.

Now for the meat of this post that makes it have some meaning:
I need some good ideas for building my ram air system. I want to use maybe some vaccume hose from the fog light holes and then go to the TPI snorkle, and then run a pipe to the stock air cleaner housing. How could I do this effectivley and not have some getto looking setup?

Keep the racing stories in the right board please

if you're going to fab. something, why don't you remove the weatherstripping on the back of the hood, modify your stock air cleaner lid and play around with some pieces of foam-rubber and rivets to seal it off from the hot air, and make a cowl induction setup? I think I saw someone explain it better on here a while ago. That way you aren't limiting your high airflow characteristics to speeds above 15mph and you keep the engine bay uncluttered. I've never done it, but I like the idea nonetheless.
