I just got a ALDL/OBDI & OBDII Y-cable from AKMCables.com. I have been looking at some of the sensors with the WinALDL program, but don't know whats high and whats low, yet.

If someone could tell me what a normnal knock count is it would really help. Mine stayed at 8 for a while and went to 12 a few times. Thats in the city driving. I've yet to get out on open road with my laptop. At idle it would show 2 mostly.

Also if I could get some #'s for the O2 sensor. Whats rich, whats lean and what volts should I try to set it at. I read the tech write up on adjusting the fuel pressure by the O2 sensor, but has any of ya did it that way? Any more info that ya think I might find usefull using the WinALDL program would be nice too. Thanks, Bobby

 

12 on the knock count is nothing ot be concerned about, especialy if you drove for quite some time. FWIW, i tend to get the most knock on decel. under cruise and accel, i have just a few random counts here and there.

the o2 you can use to ball-park things, but it is not accurate, i have a WB readout that says i am at 15.7:1, my NB in the car logged .980mv, there are really alot of other things to look it. but when i do ruff in my WOT stuff in the chip, i tend to shoot for between 850-900mv across the board.

 

i sometimes get a few on starter engage. false knock. my pipes may be hitting a bracket under trans that they pass through. that may be causiong some for me as well. my timing is conservative. i took some timing out when KC appeared. i am now thinking it was the exhaust pipes since conservative timing at 20-30 map and 2400-2800 rpms where KC occurred.

 

YEah I usually get around 8 knock counts firing the car up, but I haven't gotten any just cruising around

 

i jus seen mine after iu went to work an it was 6954 after a 15 mile drive . lol
this just started after i had my front tires changed . i heard the exhaust move when they lifted the car . i 'm hoping its just sumthing rubbing cause false knock .lol

 

That much seems like false knock. I know on mine if I ramp to 4500-5000 rpms I will have around 300-500 knocks but that is because I am running lean at those higher rpms soooo I dont go that high no more until I get it fixed. She runs really solid from off idle to 4000 rpms though.

 

mines knocking from idle up now . before i never got any knock at all before the tires got changed . i'm gonna check it out this weekend .i figure if it was real i'd have blown up by now .lol

 

Yea thats alot of counts, youd hear it pinging by now with counts like that. Can you see KR retard on your read out?

 

yea it's retard it 1 or 2 randomly .ihear my exhaust tapping the bottom of the car now . lol
i'm gonna pull the plugs in the morning an see what thaey look like an also readjust my exhaust ...

 

just pulled the plugs an they look perfect , so i'm asuming it's gonna be the exhaust . but that will have to wait til sunday ...

 

Ive had some major isses with False KR also. Ive went though my whole car and can find where its coming from. There is so many things that can cause false KR, such as large cams, noisy valvetrain, ex. leaks, pipes rattling, larger tq, converter..exc. Im my case i'd see mass KR when I went into WOT and the plugs would look perfect and such. So if you want to make sure that the KR is false dump some race gas or even 93 in your case, if its still the same exact KR(basically) you proved its false.

I dont reccomend it but the other day I put Vp100 in my car and disabled the spark knock attack rate to 0.000. I only did it a few times as Im a boosted application(on a very very conservitive tune=low timing). And 1/4 mile racing only. But that KR is definitly taking away from your preformance since its retarding the timing. Better safe then sorry, so find your kr causing part/area.

i run 93 octane all the time , i went back to the original tune an it's still there .lol thanks for the help ...
