Yeah the L05 is definetly not the best motor in the world. I would think that a stock L05 would probably run in the mid 15's with an in our cars depending on gearing and which tranny you have. My car ran like a 15.1 with the an L05 and 3.08 gears when I first put it in, but the motor came out of a modded truck and I dont know if the guy did anything to the heads or if he swapped cams. The L05 has 40 more hp and like 40 more foot pounds of torque than the L03 and it will defnetly respon better to any mods you do to it so I think its a great base to start with.

With jsut the L05 and the stock exaust and such its going to be a pig. The shortblock is ok, though. With some small chamber heads like a worked over set of 081's or 416's, decent cam, exaust, TC and gears it would probably do ok.
