speedo gears question

First off, what drive/driven combo did gm put in the 2.73 equipped auto L03's in 92? Second, those of you who swapped to 3.42's, what speedo gears did you go with?

All of the T5 cars got the 3.08 peg leg base. That is for the RS models. The Z's could get the 3.42's with posi with the T5. The RS auto cars got the 2.73 peg leg and the auto Z's got the 3.23 with posi. These options prety much stayed consistant all the way up to the f-bodies last production days in 2002. As for speedo gear I only know about the T5 ones. I assume you have an auto?

I will have to get the part numbers for you when I get back home this evening. I also have a pic of them so that you can make sure you get the right ones. I went to my local GM dealer and went to their parts center (not service) and ordered them. Took them about 5 minutes or so to find them but it helped them out when I said they were for a 3.42 geared T5 TPI car. I think I paid about $30 all together for both but I will double check that as well.

i only paid about $10 for my gears. There is an old post on the boards that lists every speedo gear and its part number for the cable and electronic driven th700r4 and for the T5. I would do a search if i were you.

I don't think we are sure if he has a T5 or the auto. The two speedo gear changes are completely different for the two and the auto is a lot easier to do from my understanding.

under transmission to the left of his profile it says: 4L60 so i was just assuming he was talking about a th700r4. Changing the gears on the auto are a bitch also, you have to remove the torque arm in order to get the tailshaft housing off but only if he has to change the drive gear. He might we able to get away with just using a 45 driven gear and keeping the 17 drive gear depending on his tire size.

Yea you are right. Ever since TGO made that user friendly update I always forget to look under peoples screen names to check out the obvious

Yea I had the same problem but I was about to tell them i owned a different car and thats what they were for.

Anyways,
I cannot find the pic on my computer but here is a thread that i responded to that has the pic I wanted to show. I can get you some more later to show you the gears up close.

They are both AC Delco parts and here are their AC and GM part numbers. They share the same part numbers.

For the round purple one
ACD# 14071731
GM# 14071731

and for the shaft mounted one
ACD# 14090592
GM# 14090592

You are correct. Purple round gear and a white gear on a metal shaft. I should have some better pics up in a little bit.

Ok here is a pic. It is still not the best but i don't really want to take it out of the plastic yet. I had to order them separately because they only had one in stock. It looks like the purple one cost me about $6. I think the white on with the shaft cost $20.

I found two good tech articles on swapping speedo gears for both AUTO
and
MANUAL
If anyone wants to check them out.
