Anyone have 145mph speedo in '91 or '92 RS

I posted this here cause most everyone here has a RS or nonZ cause of TBI. I'm wanting to get a 145mph speedo. Did the '91 or '92 Z28 have it? Will it go in with no problems? Anyone have a pic of a '91 or '92 Z28 dash? Thanks, Bobby

I wanted one in the worst way but they are really expensive and I didn't want to mess with the odometer. I didn't want people to think that I had messed with the mileage on my car and that I was lying or tampered to get the low miles that my car has. There were two types of 145mph speedos. There were the ones found in 90 thru 92 (half moon) and 89 previous (circular).

I just installed one in my 'maro because my 110mph speedo busted, and found a 145mph for a semi descent price. It goes in the same way the old one came out. The tach on mine isn't working properly though, so now I get to take it out again and use the tach from my old cluster.

You'd probably have a very hard time finding a new one. I bought mine from the classified for $160 shipped

R90CamaroRS you said "your tach wasn't working & you was going to put your old tach in", is the tach seprate? Yours is the half moon speedo & tach? Also if the 145mph cluster is from the L98 only is the red line different? Not that it will matter, I've got 2 350's, one is going to the shop tommarow to get cleaned, bored .060" and fixed for 3.75'' crank. I would like to keep the TBI, maybe get a Holley 670cfm TB with 80# injectors from Howell Enginering(I think there like $390). Not sure though, if I can't get over 350hp I'll go carb! Thanks, Bobby

I have an 89 RS with a 110 mph speedo, so how do you recalibrate a 145 mph one to show the accurate speed?

The cluster is all one piece, but you can break it down. Yes mine is the "half moon" style that came in '90-'92s. You'll know what I'm taking about once you have yours out and have the plastic face plate off. The redline is moved up 500rpm on the 145mph speedos. I am going to swap the overlay also though, so I have a 5,500rpm redline-not that it matters any, just looks a little better I guess.

funny

I did the speed limiter bypass in the tech articless and my spedo works fine when it's activated.. It even shows past 120
I got an auto and 3.27s... (ok so it's a little off topic.)
very few mods if you can even call them that and i'd estimate by the speedo that top speed is around 230km/h-240km/h (don't ask how i know) And yes.. I did recalibrate the speedo when i changed the rear and gearing

Yeah, the key to the speed limiter bypass is to splice into only the line going to the ecm. If you splice into the wire coming from the vss before it splits up (one to the speedo, other to the computer), then your speedo will read 0mph

so does the 145mph speedo have to be calibrated if it was installed where an original 110 speedo used to be. say for instance my 1991 z has the 110 mph speedo but if i got the 145 would i need to do anything??? and while im on that, can just the speedo be swapped out of the gauge cluster for everything to work properly or does the entire cluster need to be swapped????

You do not need to recalibrate anything. Also you are better off just swapping the whole cluster. I am not sure if you could swap the 145mph speedo onto a cluster that origionally had a 110mph. I guess it depends whether the signal is calibrated in the cluster or the speedo.

ok i figured the whole cluster swap wouldnt need to be recalibrated....thats pretty sweet. but id rather grab just the speedo and swap that out (if possible) since im sure it would be much cheaper

thanks man

Thirdgen.org classifieds, people sell them all the time on there, but just make sure it's a 90-92. You can also go to a place like Hawks, they almost always have some in stock.
