Anyone ever try to make their car more fuel efficient?
If so, could you please share?Just wanted some ideas...
The only thing that I did that made my car more fuel efficient was put an open element K&N air filter (atleast I think it made it more fuel efficient)
Thanks

Car: 2007 Corvette Z06
Engine: LS7
Transmission: 6 speed
Chip tuning will help, these (and most older EFI cars) run very rich stock. My car runs 1.5 sec and 11 mph faster in the 1/4 then stock(w/ gears) and gets at least the same or better gas milage. I'd say almost any mod that doesn't decrease low and mid range torque(i.e. NO big cam like 220/230, big single plane, or 200+cc heads) will actually help your gas milage with proper tunning. The heads are debatable b/c aftermarket heads will probably be more efficient that stockers.
By far the easiest way to make the car more fuel efficient is to stay off the gas pedle when accelerating. Look at the car next to you and accelerate at the same rate or slower. I bet that will give you at least 25% better MPG.
I usually get ~23-25 mpg on the highway at 80 mph and A/C. ~300 miles to tankfull. I'm talking about the TBI car in sig.

Your car is not going to get much more efficient than the way it came from the factory unless you get into custom chip burning. You said you have a open air cleaner so you must have the TBI engine right? You can try advancing the timing a few degrees, that helps power and MPG some. What MPG are you getting now? Your car should be getting at least 275-300 miles on the avg. tankful, at least mine does, I have the 5-speed. And it will get 400-450 miles on a tank on long trips.

GET THE TORNADO!!!!!!! Those things really work ...
I found out the best way to save gas is not rag on it. I never really give it more than half throttle unless its necessary. That why I installed my vacuum guage. So when I'm crusing and if im at 20-21 on the guage thats the best milage.
Also like everyone else said, chip burning .... but i thought the LO3's got good milage compared to the others from the factory.

A tune up can help too. Make sure everything is up to snuff.
WIthan 88 camaro 305 / 700r4:
A tune up did wonders for my car. This was about 4 years ago. I had replaced the EGR and some other things with parts from AutoZone. I had replaced these parts because the car was displaying codes. After fixing the car, it ran better but still had a rough idle. It wasn't real rough. It was just rough enuf for me to notice, but not really worry about. The rough idle slowly got worse until I decided to take it to the dealership and get it checked out. I was working 55+ hours a week as an engineer so money wasn't a problem but time was.
They checked things out and replaced 4 things. One of the things was the egr from autozone. I don't recall the other parts. They said the parts weren't working as well as they should and recommended gm parts. I said ok and gave them $600 dollars.
The car then idled smooth. I didn't notice any gains in performance until I drove the car to Kansas City to Dallas.
I was cruising along and was about an hour past the furthest I'd ever gone without stopping for gas. My first thought was panic. I looked at the guage and was surprised to see the I still had a 1/4 tank left.
The tune up gave me a little over 3 mpg increase in mileage. Then money I saved in gas mmore than paid for the tune up the chevy dealership did.
Another boring story. I used to drive 30 minutes on the highway every evening when I worked nights. During that time frame I replaced my Goodyear GT=4s w/ a cheaper performance tire. That immediately dropped my mileage 2 mpg and the tires didn't stick as well. They did better in snow, but I usually just stay home when it snows. In Dallas, St Louis, and Seattle, if you don't want to drive in the snow you can usually just wait til the next day and the snow has melted off of the streets.
I think I've had tooo much caffiene today.

K&N Filter
Tune Up, Plugs, performance wires, proper coolant misture, fuel filter, clean injectors, synthetic oil with Prolong or another agent.
Performance Exhaust system with low restriction muffler, y pipe, headers, and cat.
Underdrive pulleys.
(The easier your motor breaths , the more power and efficeint it becomes)

Um, in a word, no. Why would you? If everything is working right (and this is a stock LO3/700R4 combo we're talking about here) you should be getting pretty good gas mileage. Hiway I get ~31mpg and town is somewhere between 18 and 22 depending on how much lead I have in my shoes that week Mods are in sig. Seriously, there are a lot of 4-bangers and sixes out there that don't get those numbers. Don't fix it if it aint broken.
