Does this sound right?
Hey Guys,
My buddy has a '91 RS 5-speed that he wants to do some work to. Currently it's stock except for a cat back system.
This summer he wants to have the motor done in it. His brother races cars and has his engines done at a local shop, and is always saying how great they are. My friend told me his goal was to get like 350hp out of it, and he asked his brother if he could talk to the engine shop about it.
Last week he was telling me that his brother went and asked the shop how much it would cost to get his car up in the 350hp range....and supposedly they said they could get it in the 350-500hp range (yeah, I said 500, not a typo) for $1800. Now, call me a skeptic but that doesn't sound right. The kicker is my buddy wants this done with no bottle, no supercharger, and to keep the engine a 305 TBI that looks stock (not sure what he means by "look stock").
I don't know much about engines and things that can be done to them, but I just don't buy it....What do you guys think?
Also like I said, he's got a stock 5 speed tranny....I haven't talked much about Camaro's for a few years now, but from what I remember they can't handle a whole lot of HP right?
Thanks for reading, I'm anxious to hear what you have to say.

I think that if they know what there doing, it can be done, as long as they budget there money right. ive seen a 89 rs that was running a 12.9. he open the hood and it looked bone stock. im not sure how much horsepower he has, but it had to be quite a bit. but, i do think it can be done for 1800.

to bring the lo3 up to 350 hp n/a, you would have to replace EVERYTHING......1800 sounds like what the parts would cost, if not more
now if they can give it 500hp for that much, im moving to vermont

i dont think it can be done for 1800, you will be spending about 1000 for heads, about 250 for a cam, 200 for an intake, and 200-300 for a bigger TBI and 300-500 for headers. That is already more than 1800. In each price i kinda included the cost of gaskets, etc. but this is considering that they are going to do all the work for free and there is going to be alot of chip tuning that will be involved. Make sure the guy is not referring to a carbed engine.

Hehe...I don't see it happening either, but like I said, I don't know a whole lot about engines or prices for that matter.
Thanks guys, I'll let you know more as I hear.

yeah, it wouldnt take much to get a TPI 350 into the 350HP range, those things are 245HP and 345lb ft of torque (90-92) stock. you probably wouldnt even have to change the heads to get 350HP out of it
