cam lsa question
My 305 bit the dust about a month ago, so a new engine is going in. I'm looking at a 383 with L31(vortec) heads machined for higher lift, edelbrock performer intake manifold, and a hydraulic roller cam. I'm debating between the comp cams 305 and the 306. the specs look like this:
cc305.....220/230, .510/.510, 114 LSA
cc306.....230/244, .510/.540, 112 LSA
Now I know you can put more cam in a 383, thus making the 306 seem a bit more attractive. However, I've read that our ecms are picky as far as LSA goes, and that the more lift you have, the more LSA you need. I really don't mind if I have a lumpy idle, but I don't want my ecm throwing fit's either. Nor do I want my car dying when idling. So, can chip tuning get around the LSA problem? Or should I just go with the cc305? I'm kinda worried about fuel delivery as well. I have the Holley 670, which will get 85pph injectors. A 255 fuel pump will be installed, and I plan on running the pressure around 18psi. Do you guys think that would even be enough to feed my engine at high rpms if I used the 306? I know the cc305 would be the safe bet, but I don't want to cut myself short and really want to push the limits of the 2bbl TBI. Any opinions would be appreciated, as I am on a budget, and want to take every precaution to get it right the first time. Thank you, Roy

One other thing......I'm at 2,000rpm in sixth gear at 75-80mph. Would I even be in the torque range with the cc306?

at thoswith that engien speed at that highway speed you shoudl eb in good shape. you will be at the beginning of the torque slope, but you will be in it.
with that cam you may wanna look at the torker intake. it is a smaller single plain design that will benefit a cam like that greatly over a performer or performer rpm.
with teh 85pph injectors you shoudl be able to get enough fuel into teh engine, even if you have to go a touch higher on teh fuel pressure to do it.

Do they make a torker intake for the vortec heads. I did a quick yahoo search and couldn't find any torkers for the vortec heads. I really like the design that maifold has too. But an edelbrock performer should still be ok if I can't get a torker, right?

Personally I wouldn't use the single plane manifold or the 306 cam. They're both gonna want to push your power curves up pretty high and stroker motors don't like very high rpms. The 114 lsa, with the durations and the lift numbers should still give you plenty of scavenge affect for the TBI. And yes, you'll have to do some prom tuning.
