Modified vs Original / Everyones opinion please
I'll keep it short. I use to be on this site about 4 yrs ago and lost my 89' Formula / 2QUIK4U Mi Plate...(due to money trouble)and slowly dropped out of site. My formula was lowered, TPI, and every known bolt on available. Very Quik. Now I just bought an 89' Mint Condition Formula TBI w/ 5-speed that has been un-molested in anyway from the original owner. I mean nothing touched on the car. Even the old radio (which sounds crappy) , and the engine has everything original , other than the altenator . Do you think it would be wise for me to start adding and deleting parts to this car ( I like fast and different) or keep it original. ( I like original vehicles too as long as they would be worth something in the future. Does anyone think these cars can be worth something later in life? I know there were very many of these made in this year. I hope to hear from ya and will be back in the saddle again.
thanks, ken

If it's in mint condition like you say, and everything works....I'd keep it stock.
You could always find another one that's on it's last leg to play with.
It's tough to find them in great shape like that...

I don't feel that the TBI cars will have the collector appeal in the future when these cars are antiques. So I would recommend modifiying to your hearts content.

every car is eventually worth soemthing to a collector. a base more basic model that came with tbi is gonna take a long time to get there though. image based cars with high end options always gain value first and then drag teh rest of the market value along afterwards.
jsut look at 2nd gen market values. people loved teh early 70's z's and t/a's and now we are seing even restored 6cyl cars go for pretty good prices, soem near teh 10k mark.
to me it is all about how you enjoy your car. if you want fast, go for fast, if you like stock show quality cars, then tha tis what you shoudl do.

Mod it. I used to think the same thing when I first got my '89 GTA 5.0L TPI 5 speed car, which is a little hard to come by, but I think it's pointless unless the car is:
In perfect condition(like new) , no interior wear, no surface rust on anything.
Has less than 40,000 miles(probably need less than 20000 to be worth while.)
IMO needs to be somewhat rare, there's probably like 50,000+ cars like that (TBI 5 speed).
I hated my TBI car, I couldn't even sell it for $2500 with gears/posi. Due to circumstances I had to start driving it again. I did a few mods and made the 1.5 sec faster for less than $100(a few re-used parts) and now it's almost as fun as my GTA was to drive. I don't think driving a 16-17 sec thirdgen or any slow performance oriented car is fun.
