camro+deer= total
I hit a deer a couple weeks ago and found out today that the car will be totaled. I've already got a price to buy it back from the insurance comp. for $200. all it has is front end damage but it has 191k miles, that was the killer. As you can see in my sig, I have a 91 camaro also so I'm planning on pulling the eng/transmission and rear end. I want to do a rear gear change so now I can just build the spare and swap them out in an afternoon. what other stuff should I strip? what stuff do you think is worth trying to ebay?

Sorry to here that. I've seen quite a few deer in the mornings the past few weeks around Lake Dow. Check your e-mail.

Have u got a pic of it of the damage? BTW I'm a bodyman and painter and just wanted to see how bad it is. $200 is pretty cheap.

hey what are you going to do with your open element? Did you buy the bushing kit or piece by piece? You would probably get quiet a few hits on here for piecing that car out. I know I would be interested. Sorry about your encounter. I hit a deer one time laying in the road. I was doing 65 and luckily I hit the deer with her back toward me and I basiclly jumped it. All 4 wheels left the ground. No damage to the car though, just blood and hair underneath. Lucky me.

I would attach a pic but it is too big and I can't figure out how to compress it from 760kb down to the max 102kb allowed. It really doesn't look like that much damage, but I'm sure that this being the 5th time they have had to fix it in the 7 years I've had the car, had something to do with it being totaled.
apparently the estimate for repair is 2700 and the value is right at 2400. There was under hood damage but I couldn't open it until I got it to the bodyshop, so I don't really know how extensive it was.
This is the second deer I killed, the first I was going about 75mph, sent the deer about 50 ft up in the air!!! the guy behind me stopped to see if I was okay, then all he could say was "THAT WAS SOO COOL!!! I had to drive about 90 miles to get back home.
iroczrockz, the bushings were purchased as a kit from PST. the kit has approx 50k miles, and almost 4 yrs. I will post the car on the classified boards as soon as I get it back and decide what I'm gonna keep. I have acrylic ttops in the 91 so I will probably keep the glass ones off this car, but I gotta get new weatherstripping before I use them. I will be using the open element on the TBI '87 truck I have.

Jagone, if you use Outlook Express E-mail the picture to yourself. It should ask you if you want to keep the picture as its original size or make it smaller...select smaller. After you receive it from yourself, save it and then try to post it.

sorry man. i just hit a deer last night with my g/f in the car. the damn thing came out of the woods like 2 seconds before i hit it. his antlers came off and flew over the car. it's head hit the passenger headlights though, so i only lost the low beam light and the headlight covers. we were both pretty shook up, but had i been driving the camaro i would've flipped out, but i was only driving the celebrity. sorry again man, you really gotta be careful about deer. i'm moving into the city as soon as i can.

Looks like time for a cowl hood and a new bumper cover. I wouldn't trash that car just for that little damage.

I agree with not parting that car out. That doesn't seem like that much damage. You should be able to find the stuff behind the bumper at a junkyard and pick up a hood and front end for little of nothing compared to the payoff they are gonna give you. Go to www.cervinis.com for a good fiberglass hood.

I would definately try to keep your car. It may be more than just a hood and bumper cover but it looks like it is very fixable. If you like the car and it runs fairly decent why not?

Looks like a little upper radiator support and headlight support damage too.. Those headlight supports are made from this fibrous stuff that likes to splinter when it's hit, so they're not easy to fix.
I wouldn't be surprised to spend up to $1200 to fix the damage.

My friend had some damage on his 86 SC like that once. They totaled his car too. His looked worse than yours though. His brother straightened his hood out the best he could and bondoed it. Then he hooked a line to the crossmember there in front and pulled it back out the best he could. He still drives the car daily. You can't tell there was that much damage and all he spent on it was like $20 in materials. His was his beater though. You could get a new hood and maybe even fix the nose piece you have. I wouldn't part it out.

If thats the only damage to the car I say keep it and fix it. 191k is a lot of miles though. If it was runing decent then its definitely worth the fix.
In that pic you posted is that ALL of the damage? Cause if thats it I say fix it up.
