Mod's Drop .5 off my 1/4 mile
Just got back from Firebird Raceway.
I got sick off the ride quality with the poly/spherical LCA, probably cause I always had them in the lowest setting on the LCA relocaters. Anyway, I put on the LCA's from the 98 I got the rear end from, and left them in the upper mount position and left the total pinion angle at 0.
This was the first time that I ran with the 6 spd, but after getting used to it a bit, and several 16.7 runs, I pulled a 16.2 with a 2.485 60' time.
I figured the car would be slower out of the hole since the 700R4 has a much higher 1st gear ratio. The only other mod I did was an open element 14x3 air cleaner, that I'm sure helped a bunch.
Do you guys think that adjusting the suspension and throwing the spohn LCA's back on for the track will get me in the 15's??
Just got a laptop so I can run WinADL to get it tuned better. I still have the 3" exhaust and random cat, I just need TPI headers to make it work. That I'm sure will get me into the 15's for sure.
I'll keep pushin on. Thanks to all!!! I'm glad I read the tech article on the air cleaner, or I would have ended up getting a drop base or shorting out my coil wire. I used a strip of a rubber floor mat to cover the coil and distributor.

Definitly looking at mid 15s with a decent 60' as the car sits. I was running 15.812 @ 84 w/2.24 60' mph. How big are your tires? With the posi and the 3.42 your 60's should be at least 2.1.

The best run that I got, I had the air on until I staged so the fan could bring the temp down to 190. Another thing was shifting outta first at 4500 and the rest of the shifts at just under 5000.
I shifted into fourth too close to the traps. Are 3.73's or 4.10 needed here??
My reation times were crap. I guess I really have to pay attention to what yellow light I need to start the launch. Would spinnning out of the whole hurt my R/T???
Tires are new bridgestone 245/45/ZR16's.
Needless to say I'm hooked. One more ? What do you guys running manuals come out of the hole at. My best was probably at 1200.

RT doesnt have an effect on your 1/4th time. You could sit at the light for 10 minutes and still run a 15.0 Those are pretty small tires from the sidewall, that'll hurt the launch, but shouldnt be bad. I honestly have no idea how to launch a manual car though, Im sure someone on here can tell you!

My experience with manuals is that you just have to experiment and practice your launches. By the way, how was Firebird? I heard that they have been having a lot of problems with the track.

yea all the reaction time is going to affect is who wins the race if its close enough... thats why sometimes you can run a quicker ET than the car next to you, and lose the race. wont be by much but thats what it is haha nice times you pulled though, 15s shouldnt be too far of a stretch once you perfect that launch and take that 60 foot down a lil bit

Thanks again. Do you guys warm up your tires. I read a while back that only slicks need to.
JR, Firebird was cool. Only 1 other 3rd genner out there, some guy in a maroon IROCK that was in the 13's I think, carbed out, no injection. I got 5 runs in within an hours time.

when launching rev up to a speed well above stall and keep it there.
let your clutch down slowly then faster as you get better. Avoid wheel spin!
The perfect launch: have a friend stand behind and tell you when he sees a little blue smoke come from the tires with no spin, you will have reached nirvana!
