sbc 400 update
well, finally paid off all the bills, so now its the engine's turn. sat down and played with desktop dyno a bit and came out with some very nice numbers. like i said before, i am staying tbi, so i'm not leaving ya guys. first off, goin with the summit 1103 cam. 214/224 .442/.465, still very streetable. i've got an edelbrock performer intake right now, but would really like to switch to a single plane manifold, so i'll trade/buy/sell with anyone if they have one. still keeping the stock heads, but may do a bit of porting/polishing to them. finally, getting some of the hedman shorties. on a budget, and the slp's are way over the budget. with that combination (getting throttle body bored out too), dyno2000 gave me a reading of 337 hp @ 5000 rpm and about 425 ft/lbs of torque @ 2500 rpm. not too shabby. with the single plane manifold and bored out tbi, it gave me over 350 at the flywheel. not too bad, huh? i know i wont see all of this and it is a rough estimate, but this is a very nice change from the 170 hp of the 305. trying to get winaldl working on my laptop, but i think i screwed up on my cable. may have burnt up the transistor, but not sure how to check. so, any feedback on anything i'm forgetting or i should change, lemme know. i begin the rebuild process this week.

wait wait wait. sorry about that. not l03 heads, the stock 400 heads. i got a complete 400 engine out of a truck, so i'm pretty much just rebuilding what came on it, just changing the cam and intake. sorry about the misunderstanding

well, like i said before, i am on a very tight budget. i'm not sure if they are the truck heads, however. the engine was put into the truck. the heads are #333882. they were listed on the mortec site, but not really any info besides them being from a 400. if i had more money, i would switch to some vortec heads, but i do need this motor in the car in the next month. tweaking can come later.

my brother had a 400 out of a truck and it was slow. Youll definatly want to get some good heads when money permits. Even a bored tb will probably be small for that motor. Id try to also get a 4 bbl holley injection system somewhere down the road to really take advantage of that motor. Again, if money permits. I know the broke feeling i have a slow crate 350. Feels and sounds like the ol' 305 but it doesnt leave a smoke trail or deposit all its bodily fluids on the driveway.
