GM vs Spohn vs other sway bars

Spohn Sway Bars $245.00
36mm front
24mm rear

GM Sway Bars about $180 new from I forget which dealer.
36mm front
24mm rear

Differences, spohn worth the extra money, any other companies to look into?

I'm pretty sure they are the same sway bars from both Spohn and GM,the $$$ differnce comes in because when you get the sway bars from Spohn they have a powder coated finsih and when you get them from GM they are painted. The powder coating is what makes the Spohn sway bars more expensive.

The powdercoating is nice, but you can't go wrong with the GM ones for the money. Still high quality and the paint on them isn't half bad either.

Try www.gmpartsdirect.com I got the rear bar for around $50 with shipping, and the front was around $80.

What is the GM product made out of? What type of metal is used? I know Steve uses a lot of lightweight materials that cost more but are also stronger. You should also take that into consideration when you purchase things not just on the price.

The GM part #s for the hollow 36 mm front and solid 24 mm rear are as follows:

14094344 (the higher durometer bushings are 14094389)
10035033 (the higher durometer bushings are 10037104)

Also available, FYI, are GM poly end links, part # 10221779

The 36/24 mm combo can be found on some Camaros 88-92 and some Firebirds 86-92. I would guess $50 for the combo at a salvage yard--at least that's what mine were. I had the two sway bars and a torque arm powder coated for $42.

bmr sway bars are made of chromemoly steel and are something like 4 times stronger than 1le bars. $269 with bushings. I was looking at the spohns, but chromoly steel and bushings seems to be worth the extra $25- they are also powdercoated, in your choice of colors, and can be obtained through the thunder motorsports link or from bmrfabricationdotcom.

brharris,

if you're going to change your rear bar you need to change your front as well so they are balanced. an unbalanced setup will result in over/understeer.
