Time to install subframe connectors
How much time should it take a experienced shop to install a set of Spohn connectors. I was trying to figure out how much it would cost to have a set installed and was told that they charge by the hour. The guy told me that he had installed them several times before, but I dont think he has done a set of Spohns before. If I make sure he does them right how should they be welded down the center. I have heard that they should be welded to the floor board the entire length of the car. I remember someone using a term for a specific style of welding done there (I know it is mig welded) but I dont remember what it was. I think that it was instead of welding a straigt line clear down it like you go around the ends.
Thanks

He told me he charged 25 an hour so that sounds pretty decent. I think I will asume 4 hrs since you work with them constantly. Anyways how do you recommend having it welded? I know you are supposed to have them mig welded, but are you supposed to just weld it in spots on the floorboards or all the way down?
Thanks

I'm also considering SFCs, I'm considering getting Spohn also. But I wouldn't want the person who would be welding my car, not know what to do cuz he hasn't dealt with Spohn. I think the SFCs should come with instructions on how to weld it perfectly.

He knows what he is supossed to do, I just wanted to check with you guys to see if he was right about what he said. He said that you have to tac weld along the floor boards and everything he said sounded like what I have read about on here. The only thing that worries me is that he said that I have to take out my carpet in case there is a weak spot or something and the weld goes through. Is this a normal precaution or do you think that he probably is not a very good welder?

I will still at least have to take the seats out though if he is going to put something between the carpet and floor right? If I do that and he has to lift the edges of the carpet to put something in between it it wouldnt really be that hard to go ahead and at least move the carpet up towards the center of the car or take it out would it. I am just trying to figure out what my best options are.

Called "stitch" welds. You can get away with removing the sill plates, and pulling up the carpet at the edges. I used wads of aluminum foil to help hold the carpet away from the floorpan.

Hey Steve, how do you go about doing this. Would you recommend just proping up the carpet or do you think that I should just take it clear out?
Thanks

I remove the front seats and the rocker cover, then just prop the carpet up with some blocks of wood.
If welded properly with good penetration, you will burn the carpet (trust me).
