Strut mount dust caps

Strut mount dust caps
I replaced my struts and mounts over the weekend, but my old caps don't even come close to fitting on the new mounts. (The new mounts have a smaller opening, making my cap too large) Anybody else ever had that problem? What did you do to resolve it?
I think I can cut a notch out if the old cap to get them to fit, but before I did I want to see my options

Cut a small notch with a razor blade. All the ones I've changed have required it.

yeah, looks like that's my first option. It's strange how they make the hole a different size, but don't provide the caps to fit the holes...
