Wheel wobble?

So my drums were literally seized to my rear end because of a set of very large developed groove not only in the pads, but the drums, which required me to pry on the backing plate while using a big f#$ing hammer. Is it possible that these axels are so flimsy, I bent one hammer on the drum?

I have a 92 camaro rs...5.0l, 5 speed, everything is stock.

Re: Wheel wobble?

Drums will wear inside over time - your supposed to use the adjustment to make the shoe assembly contract before you try to take the drum off, then when you put the drum back on, again you adjust to tighten the shoes outwards back into the drum.

Re: Wheel wobble?

I was asking if it's possible that I bent the axel by hammering on the drum (from the back) to get it off.
Thanks

Re: Wheel wobble?

I have exactlly the same issue. I just bought my 92 Z a month ago and started doing the general maint. on it. The rear right drum had large grooves in it and the rear left did not. I replaced both drums anyhow and shoes. Today a buddy of mine was behind me while i was driving and he said my rear right tire was wobbling. I immediately of course checked the lugs and they were all tight. Had my friend drive it while i watched the tire and yea it's wobbling pretty bad in my opinion. When i got home tonight I jacked up the car and checked for play in the rear right wheel. No play at all. I then removed the tire and checked for a bent rim and even placed the tire on the front right just to spin it and see if it wobbled....it did not. Tomorrow i'm going to jack up the rearend and get both tires off the ground and dare I say put the car in drive to see if there is wobble....i'm thinking it might be the rear right axle? Car seems to drive ok...i've only had it up to 65-70 mph but it seems to not vibrate at all....

Any suggestions out there?

Re: Wheel wobble?

If it was "wobbling pretty bad in my opinion", you'd feel it at the 65-70mph you were driving.

Judging y everything you did to check it, you aer just seeing different marking on the thread causing a visual wobble, not a physical wobble.

Swap your tires side to side & I bet you'll see the wobble effect move with that tire.

If you do the wheels off the ground in drive, just use 2 jack stands under the axle, block both front tires & have clear room in front of you, just in case. Don't do it inside the garage facing inwards or even outside facing the garage/a wall.

Re: Wheel wobble?

Well i found the problem. It was the stinking rear wheel spacers that come on only the 92 camaros....I removed the spacers and bingo.....wobble is gone....

SO the question is....are these spacers needed? Can anyone answer that question?

No. See the other thread which includes a link to the 10-Bolt FAQ.

Remove the wheel spacers on the rear wheels....that's most likely causing your wobble...
