Rear Disc Brake Pads resting against rotor, scraping...
OK, here's the problem
The rear disc brakes on my gta have always been 'scraping' per say against the rotor.. i replaced the back pads, and noticed that there is nothing that is pulling the pad back off of the rotor after the piston pushes them against it.. should there be some sort of clip/pin setup to hold the pad against the rotor ?
this is starting to drive me insane. I absolutely HATE noisy brakes.
thanks,
ben

This is a desigm flaw of the 88 and earlier J65 brake systems. As far as I know there is no fix, this is why I upgraded to 89 and later system.

Brake pads never actually leave the rotor surface, they are always in contact. I think that your calipers are not releasing fully thats why you are scraping.. when do you hear this noise? When the car is moving or only when the wheel is off the ground and you spin it? Look into which wheel has the problem, if you have to replace a caliper, you will only want to bend over for the one, but you should do them both. Like what was said before, if you want to sure the problem once and for all, upgrade to the late model version.

it scrapes whether its in the air spinning, or im just driving down the road, and the calipers are releasing fully... its just that its not drawing the pad out with it. sh*t is starting to aggrevate me. i'd drive the GTA more if it wasn't for the stupid breaks being loud.

try using some disc brake quiet. its just like glue that goes behind the pad (not on the rotor surface side!) that keeps the pads attached to the piston.

There is a fix, but you have to rebuild the calipers and replace the pistons with the new design ones. Look in the tech articles under "upgrading brakes" or something like that, and read Daniel Burk's page on how to fix it. Or, do like onbad82z did and switch to the 89 and up PBR style rear system. I will be doing the same on my 88 IROC. Just swap rears, it's that simple. Hope this helps
