Car "floats" at high mph

What could cause a car to float at high mph? Do I need to change shocks or struts to get the car to hug the road better? I have an 84 Z28 factory style front air shocks on rear.

drop it, shock it and connect it.

-lowering springs 1-2in
-Kyb/koni/tok/bilstein shocks/struts (adjustable)
-Sub-frame connectors

-Done

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

too much air pressure buildup under the front, rake it (lower the front), limit the airflow under the car w/ a spoiler.

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

Define "high MPH".....Of course.....

Anytime air gets under the car, it creates a "lift" effect. More downforce = less "float". If your car floating up front? In the rear? Or both ends?

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

85mph range. Of course it is a bumpy highway not interstate. I'm worried if I drop the car I will have bottoming out issues plus the cost of panhard bar to get the rear right. The car rides rough anyways and it seems darty in the front. I thought the air shocks on the rear might be a problem, I'm not a fan of those. But perhaps a stiffer off the shelf shock might make the car ride a bit better. I mean it is a Camaro, does anyone keep them the speed limit?

Tht's typical of these cars with factory worn out struts. What happens is the rebound force of the strut deminishes over time and as the car bounces over bumos at speed the nose raises enough to get air under it- then combines with no "hold down" force of the strut , the car keeps bobbling upward in a porpusing fashion.

Could just be worn out front struts.

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

I think I will change struts, rear shocks, and tie the frame and go from there. BTW, do any of you guys run solid engine mounts?

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

My Engine mounts are solid. I think the Rubber is there for Vibration Dampening. My engine is crap right now, so i can't really speak to a performance engine with that setup. What's the Question?

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

My oil pan is rubbing the drag link ever so slightly. Wondering what the fix would be?

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

Also was wondering since I put the solid mounts on the chassis as well, if that might have lowered the engine? I have a JEGS street strip pan on the engine, 7qt. and I really don't want to dimple the pan.

Re: Car "floats" at high mph

Perhaps the centerlink has so muck oil and dirt it might have the look of a rub. I guess I need to take it off and check.
