PICTURES OF LOWERED IROC CAMAROS

i have searched so much of the old subject things, and i cant find ANY pics of either a sportline settup, or the bell tech settup. What AM I DOING WRONG!!!?? lol i really want to know what it will look like before i drop my car, i want either the sportlines ~1.5" drop, or the belltech 2" spindles up front and 1.5" springs in the back.

thanks a lot!

Well it's not an IROC, but this will give you an idea...

What are spindles??? My car was dropped by the previous owner using about 1-inch high "washers" (maybe spindles?) between the mounting surface and the shock caps in the front, under the hood. I'm assuming the rear end has lowering springs since the car sits level. So what are spindles?

o, and spindles... umm... i cant explain it too good, but here ya go: the thing in the front suspension that the brakes go onto. it is the thing that gets pointed in the dirrection of the stteering, the wheel/brakes bolt to it, etc. someone explain it better. :-D

I could explain what they are, but a picture is worth a thousand word. Click this link to a page about the 1LE brake conversion. It has some great pictures of spindles.- http://www.geocities.com/rgades/1LE.html?985236018930

These spacers may have actually lowered the car a bit. In most cases, it takes a spring, or spindle, to lower your car. Since these cars use a modified McPherson strut front suspension, the gas charge of the strut cartridge, can hold the car up too. By raising the top of the strut, you lower the body.

I can tell you everything you want to know about the 84 Z-28 in the top picture, since it is mine. The other car pictured was one someone posted on another site. I have no idea what the details are. I agree, those are Boyds "Rodder" wheels. I would guess they are 18's, and he has it dropped about 2.5" to 3".

JucinGTA, why would you heat the spring to lower the car? Do you have any fillings left in your teeth?

pvknight and n2trux:
When old worn out struts are replace with new struts, the car won't ride any higher--because the struts don't hold up the car. Strut spacers won't do any good. Also, even with a new strut the pressure at any position of the strut rod is about the same(no matter high or low the mount is). If struts did hold up the suspension, how would drop springs work? Why am I still arguing this? Because a friend of mine thought for sure this would work. We argued about it, he tried it anyway, it didn't do anything.

heating springs is like putting thousands of miles on them all at once. some people throw em in the oven, some use a torch, either way it weakens them soooo much. its a really bad idea to do. you could be going down the road one day and snap! your front end is dragging on the road or you have a continous bottom out.

other people cut coils off the spring, if you can do it ok, and dont mind the horrible ride achieved from this, you can do it. I know Mr. IROCZ did it and it came out good. personally i recommend lowering springs. eibach and a couple out manufactures make one that lower your car, but still give you an ok ride.

Placing spacers as described restores some of the travel potentially lost in the strut. Without them, the neutral position of the strut is more compressed than original, theoretically allowing it to bottom out. That's not to say that it would ever bottom out, but you get the idea... Necessary? I dunno.
