Air shocks?
Hi guys, I have a 91' Trans Am GTA and am wanting to purchase air shocks to raise my back end up 2-3 inches just for looks, I have searched all over the internet and cant find any that will fit the third gens . It has been really frustrating trying to find something that will raise the rear of my car because I want something adjustable that will give me 2-3 inches of lift and air shocks seem to be my last resort. I went into a shop and they looked on ac delco and found a pair for like $200 which I was not about to pay for air shocks! So does anyone out there have air shocks on their third gen, and if so can you point me in the right direction to find some. Thanks a lot!!

Re: Air shocks?
Ok i looked up your original shocks, and found some Air Shocks for ya
Stock shocks have are compressed length of 11.75 and extended length of 19.00
Monroe Max-Air makes 2 choices for u
1st is part number MA700 which gives you a compressed length of 12.75 and extended length of 21.375 inches
2nd is part number MA810 compressed length is 12.375 and extended is 20.5 inches
both will fit directly up, no modifications needed, and shouldnt take u very long to install.
they come with install kit to run 2 lines from them to a single point where u can air them up or deflate them, or if u wanted to add a compressor and switch to it and do it from inside the car.
Cost should be around $75 for the PAIR and includes new bolts/nuts/bushings etc
can be found at Oreilly Auto Parts

Re: Air shocks?
Know that no one has ever put air shocks on a 3rd gen and liked them. I've only ever read complaint about them.
Might look into drag bags - air bags that fit inside the coils, that can have air added or reduced to change ride height some, although I doubt they will lift an empty car up higher, they are usually used to reduce lowering of the rear when launched at the strip, and also to add height when loaded down with luggage or whatever.
If just want to raise the ride height, put in 4th gen spring isolators - that will add 3/4 in from what I read. If that's not enough you could insert 2 of them, or maybe use a hockey puck on top of each spring (body lift kits for trucks are just hockey pucks with holes drilled through them for the mounting bolts).

Re: Air shocks?
the issue with air shocks is that it puts all the load of the car on the shock mount, which is a thin piece of shetmetal. It will eventually tear the mount out. Dont use them
