south side machine subframe connectors
has anyone ever used these on a 3rd gen camaro, if so is there any cutting of the floor involved? how do they fit?

I also saw somewhere where someone said they had to notch the y-pipe so that it didn't rattle together. I have an after market y-pipe from edelbrock and it is bigger than stock and there are 2 tubes right up to the cat. instead of one. Is there gonna be any problems with that??

Best you can do is trial-fit it up and see. Y pipes are not always created equal.

The Y pipe interference is definitely NOT minimal. I'm using Edelbrock TES #6872(5.0/5.7 with 3" slip fit cat) and the section of the pipe that joins the two down pipes from the headers to go into the cat will make contact with the sfc for a 6" section of the pipe and will cause the passenger side of the Y pipe to be unable to conect with the header. My first attempt with this problem got me a butchered up Y pipe. I later bought a new pipe from edelbrock and using my cut off wheel,I cut a section out of the front of the sfc just large enough to allow the pipe to fit with about .25-.50" clearance. Since then I've had no problems with it. Now,if you are using a smaller diameter Y pipe you may not have this problem. I was using TES #6875 for TBI cars and the 2.25" Y pipe had no clearance problems at all but switched to the 6872 and ran into the problem.

I have Edelbrock TES with the 3" cat and it hits the SSM Subframe Connectors. My problem came from the ES Poly engine mounts raising the engine 1/4 inch. Easy solution! I took some "GREEN" high temp exhust hose for AIR injection and slit it down the side, wrapped it around the y-pipe where it hits and held it on with two large hose clamps. No more rattles at idle and when you excelerate the engine torques away from the right side and conseqently does not hit.

My friend has a '92 Z28 350 with the dual converters. He had the SSM welded in and the rattled against the y-pipe over hard bumps. The exhaust shop have to notch the connector and relocate the AIR tubes to the converter. It was minor surgery, but it had to be done.

Seems like I'm the only one without a problem. I've got SSM subframes, and Edelbrock TES with the 3" y-pipe and a high flow cat. I've never heard them rattle, but when I use the subframe to jack up the car I have to be careful not to catch the exhaust with the jack.

Are you guys using the "lift bars" from SSM? I've looked them up and the "kit" they sell for our 3rd gens includes the connectors, lift bars (which replace the trailing arms in back), driveshaft loop and some gussets (for the spring pads on the rear end i believe). Is anyone using the whole kit? What's the verdict? I have some friends with other cars that have installed SSM Lift bars and love em! Just dont know any fellow 3rd genners that have em....C-Ya!

The lift bars OK if you don't want your third-gen to corner decently any more, but from what I've heard from others that had them, they're not worth it. Get the lower trailing arm relocation brackets, lower trailing arms with poly bushings, and Drag Radials and you'll be hookin' up for sure.
BTW, I have the SSM SFCs and they fit great. No cutting of the floor or exhaust necessary, and the Y-pipe for my Hooker headers has more clearance from the right-side SFC than my stock Y-pipe did.

I have the SSM lift bars/SFC's on my car & it corners great. You can lose the torque arm on the rearend because the lift bars locate the axle along with a tube that runs side-to-side across the floorpan (approx at the back of the doors). That bar is the only problem with the kit. It has to notch down to clear the driveshaft, which makes it pretty low and tends to scrape with dips in the road (although I do have very short 24-1/2" tall tires). I am considering cutting the bar out and inverting it so the notch goes over the driveshaft. This will require notching the floorpan, but will give me much more ground clearance. One bonus is you don't have to use a rearend housing with a torque arm mount. I bought a Ford 9" rear to put in the car & it was less expensive because I didn't have to buy the custom made one from Currie or Moser that has the torque arm mount.
