How ok is patching a big hole in my floorboard?

A jack mishap while changing my oil has left a 1'x1' hole in the driver's side floorpan to the left of my brake pedal. I have a set of Spohn SFC's that I'd like welded in, but that hole is right where one needs to be welded. Can I patch that hole by welding or whatever means and feel comfortable that the SFC will have a stable mount?

I just don't want to have to shell out $200 for a new floorpan and all of the labor that includes.

Just get a piece of sheet metal the same thickness as the floorpan and cut it the right size and have it welded in. Then just spray it with some undercoating so the welds won't rust. That's a way that I've seen it done before on an older mustang. The only floorpan repair that I've ever had an experience with myself is on my friend's Corvette so that won't really help you because it is all fiberglass.

You might wanna invest in a set of ramps for 25 bucks at autozone. Much better than a jack for simple jobs like oil changes .

Since you say that the hole is right where you have to weld, I assume that the hole is at or near your subframe. If so, after welding up the hole, I would plate the area @ the SFC attachment point with 1/8" plate. On my car, I used approx. 4X4"x 1/8" plate where the SFC's weld in.I heated and formed it to the contour of the place it was to be welded. This plating spreads the load out over a wider area and makes nice hard point to weld to.
