I'll be lowering it more eventually. After messing around with my GTI for the last year its made my Camaro look like a monster truck. I need to get shorter and stiffer springs all around plus at least dropped spindles and LCARB's.

So your paying for a paintjob but don't want to spend $200 on actual lowering springs?? Don't cut springs. It's not the correct way and by cutting factory springs, you lower the travel of them while keeping the same spring rate, meaning your car will not have the correct spring stiffness for the height of them. It's going to constantly hit the bumpstops when your on a rough road. I paid $400 for my name brand Tokico blue shocks and spring kit.
This is incorrect. When you cut coils off of a spring you increase the spring rate. Think of a coil spring as a bar that you are trying to bend. For a given diameter and material, a longer bar is easier to bend than a shorter bar. A spring is basically a bar wound into a coil. But don't take my word for it, the math is here http://www.engineersedge.com/spring_comp_calc_k.htm
Cutting springs is perfectly acceptable as long as you do not overheat the metal which will change its rigidity. This is why you want to use a cut off wheel and work slowly and never use a torch.
You can work out your new spring rate by simply counting the reduction of active coils and doing the math.
I have done this very thing to achieve a spring rate in the low to mid 800s from moog 5664 springs.

Re: "OFFICIAL" Lowered 3rd Gen Picture Thread (Post Your Pics Here)
Regardless whether it increases or decreases the spring rate, it's still wrong to me personally. For how cheap a nice set of aftermarket springs is, it's dumb to go cutting your stockers. Plus, with 25+ year old springs, I'm sure they've had better days, like back in the 80's. The better aftermarket spring companies put a lot of R&D so that you get an out of the box performance spring. Your average joe cutting them in his garage will never get the same result. If your only after looks, then by all means cut your stock springs. It's just something I personally have never done, nor would ever do.
A spring does not change its characteristics based upon what color it is, what brand name is printed on it, or how much you paid for it.
Want to stiffen up the ride and maintain factory balance? Increase the front and rear rate while maintaining the front to rear spring rate ratio. This is not hard to figure out. And here's another tidbit for you, springs do not change their rate as they age.
I have cut stock replacement springs up front. I did it in my garage. I worked out the math of what kind of spring rate front and rear I needed to achieve the kind of handling I wanted. The car is purpose built for handling. I consistently set the fastest time of the night at local time attack events. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkgMInrafGQ - pay attention to the time gaps. Stock LB9. More videos on my page.

There's also a lot of companies out there like Suspension Spring Specialists (SSS) that mainly cater to racers. You have complete control over the exact spring rates, length diameter, etc. They're usually pretty cheap and you can order the springs individually as well.

Needs more photoshopped stripes. And even more photoshopped negative camber on that solid axle rear.

Big difference! I like it. I've been toying with the idea on my black 89 GTA as well. Did you clear coat em or just use the niteshade only?

I've got 2 'maros. This one is 1986 IROC-Z, 305 TPI. Has K&N's, Flowmaster 80, Edelbrock Adjustable Pan Hard Bar, and Eibach Sportline Springs lowering front 1.5" and rear 1.6". These pics were shot the day I installed the srpings. Since then it has settled in a bit more. Drives like its on rails.
(Other 'maro is 2011 Imperial Blue Metallic 1LT/RS, MRT 2.0 axle back exhaust, Cold Air Inductions Intake, custom bumble bee dark silver metallic rallye stripes, custom gray suede interior, Billet Racing Pedals, T-Rex Billet Phantom Grille (upper & lower), T-Rex chrome rear diffuser insert trim, Defenderworx chrome gill inserts, Rockford Fosgate amps and speakers...T100-4 highs amp driving RF Power 6x9's in the rear and Diamond Audio componets in the front, 500-1BD sub amp driving RF P3412 12" sub in custom box with custom Chevy bowties in opaque acrylic backlight with blue LEDs). Planning to get Phadt suspension kit with springs (1.5" drop) and front/rear sway bars.

No clearcoat. Just Nightshade. I sanded 'em down starting at 600 grit and ending with 2000 grit. Then put a few coats of nightshade. I'm really happy with how they came out.
