Hey, I just had Sensa Trac shocks and struts put onto my '92 Camaro. I was wondering how good they'll actually hold up and work. I've seen some negative things about them all ready but that was all that Firestone offered. I know that there are better ones out there, so tell me if I made a big mistake putting these on my car or not. It handles better now, and doesn't sound like I'm towing a empty trailer anymore...my back shocks were really bad!!

Well they are better then your previous wore out Struts/Shocks. Can't say too much about Monroe except you get what you paid for.

 

IMO waste of money, I took out some not so old but totally worn out ones last week.

 

Thanks for the info guys....what combination of strut/shocks would you suggest for a 92' Camaro?!? It's mostly stock with a 305 L03. I'm just trying to restore it now, but would like to do some drag racing with it once I get the money for a 383.

 

I would forget about the wallet busting B and K ones. I would suggest KYB gr-2 fron struts and the KYB gas-adjust rear shocks. Have this combo on my car and picked up this info here.

 

Yes, Bilsteins are expensive and Koni's as well. But it all depends on how you are building up your suspension. Personally, I shelled out the money for Bilsteins which cost me a total of $900.00 for the parts, installation and alignment.

Btw, do you currently have a wonder bar installed on your car?

i installed new gabriel gas matic struts out front 2 years ago ,,,didn't drive the car much and when i installed new springs i noticed one strut would sit down in the strut cylinder and not spring up like the other one,,is that strut toast?...can it be already useless?...is it really like monroes...you get what you pay for?....

 

It's really the steering box brace that attaches with your front sway bar. Gives the front end better support when you add larger tires or the constant full lock on your steering wheel and prevents steering box failure from the forces it generates. I got mine on Ebay. you can ask some of the other folks here. They may have one laying around they would like to sell.

Yeah, it is lessons leaned, that's the sucky part of starting out as a newbie with your first project....

 

That's why we are all here, for help!!! Next time, log on here 1st, and do a search. You'll probably find your answer. It's hard to trust any of those Firestone, Goodyear, NTB, ect places. They usually work on commission.

 

Most of us here are Extremely performance driven and wouldn't be caught dead with Monroe's on our F-bodies, even if they were brand spanking new. So with that in mind, you probably arn't sensitized to your suspension's nuances like the average performance nut that lurks on this board; which isn't either good nor bad.

What you bought, is a real good riding shock that won't make your girlfriend's ***** hurt like hell when you drive over a set of railroad tracks. They will last you approx 20k miles of average driving before starting to fade. It's not a bad choice for the money you spent and will give you the opportunity to study up what you ultimately want to do. The last thing you want is to end up spending thousands (which is easy to do on an F body) on suspension upgrades and have this rough bucking bronco that is too uncomfortable for long distance driving and your girlfriend will no longer ride with you because she has to wear a sports bra every time.

Get brave and start asking for rides in every nice looking F-body you see. Eventually you'll find one with the ride you like and you can just copy what's been done. It'll save you a heck ofa' lotta money going that route.

Thanks! I'm finding everyone here to be nice and very smart and filled with information! I've had my Camaro for a year and a half, it's my second one! My first one was wrecked by a friend of mine on a icy day . I got my current project from the $$$ the insurance company gave me!

I have an idea of what I want to do to my car. I want to update it, make it look clean again, it's kind of rough looking right now. I want to add my own touches to it, making it how I like a 3rd gen Camaro to look. I want it to be ready to street race someone, and do a little drag racing in the summer time, but nothing to extreme.

 

They have tokico's as a package on ebay, pretty much the same price as monroe's. Great ride and handling. I have two friends that have had them for 2+ years, holding up well too. They have non adjustable, and adjustable for thirdgens

 

You might want to prioritize a good brake upgrade and box up the rear suspension. The biggest performance gains can be had by having proms4less(I think that's the correct name) dial in a PROM and finagle in a header. Also get yerbadasself a copy of: Camaro Performance Handbook by 'Shelby'. don't get carried away with all kinds of intake stuff till you're sure you've got the car's ache's and pains all squared away first. Actually; I'd invest the $200 in getting it professionally detailed. Nitro

One thing about the Sensatraks that hasn't been mentioned yet is that they are "position-sensitive". IOW, the amount of damping is not the same at all ride heights. It is this feature that gives the soft ride, or at least it does if your car sits pretty close to its OE design ride height and you aren't using springs that are much stiffer than stock. They would not play well with stiff lowering springs, for instance. But if you're lowered slightly (either from swapping in some lowering springs or just from the OE springs having sagged) they might be of a little help at the dragstrip as comared to similar price point shocks with "conventional" valving (as the rear squats, S-a-t rears will get stiffer more quickly, and as the nose rises S-a-t fronts would travel through more of the softer range).

Should you eventually swap the S-a-t's out for (5-position adjustable) Tokico Illuminas, prepare yourself for either a noticeable amount more harshness over sharp bumps or the chassis/body moving around a little more over smooth heaves in the road.

hi there, just got a set of KYB Gr2 front struts and rear shocks...i just installed the rear...and doing the front install this evening...can't wait to see how the car rides..these kyb's any good?...also , one thing i noticed, the rear kyb shocks are much slimmer than my gabriel shocks...anything to this?
