Lateral G's???

This may be a really stupid question, but everyones gotta learn. What are lateral g's on a skidpad and how do they measure it? What makes cars have more g's? Also, how did the 91-92 birds, or any other 3rd gen, do on the skidpad?

To start off, I've read that a '90 IROC-Z pulls .89 gs.
The skid pad is a big circle that you basically find the breaking point of your car. You drive around in one direcion untill your back end, or front end can't hang.
1 "G" is your entire body weight pushing you to the side, instead of down.

Yeah, it does determine how well your car handles, but to get the highest numbers, you have to have a well balanced, completely stiff, on the ground car, and then, you could pull like 2 gs. The problem is it's not streetable. You need to find a good medium.

Think of this, to make long, sweeping turms fast, your suspension would need to be stiff. But to make a quick 90 degree turn, your suspension needs to compress, alot, then return. That's why they make progressive rate springs.

Alot of people think, "stiffer is better". Don't believe this.
