The wheel size itself won't really matter. Because with taller wheels you run a lower sidewall ratio tire, yet with the same (or close to) the same OVERALL diameter tire.

Tire diameter is what matters.....And width, of course, if you won't want any rubbing.

As for "How much can I lower a 89 Camaro without having any problems?" that kinda depends on the backspacing (offset). Too far out & you hit the fenders. Too far in & you hit the fenderwells. Get it right & you can easily go 2".

I agree that you should be able to get away with 2 inches. I wish I could remember the tire size I have on mine but could look whenever I get home. I did have to do a little "custom" work to the drivers side rear wheelwell.

Obviously your rear axle was not centered, as is common on our cars.

With an adjustable Panhard Bar, you can center the axle and possibly avoid that, by getting it centered like it should be.

Almost a must on lowered cars. I know I've seen my share of offset rear axles even at stock height, on stock Panhard Bars.
