Rear shocks/spring problem..
I just recently installed brand new suspension and front steering on my 89 Iroc. The problem I am having is with the rear shocks/springs. The shocks are too long. When the rear of the car is jacked up and the rear sags, the springs are so loose, I can pull them out with the shocks bolted in. Have any of you had this problem? Where can I get some shorter shocks. I am using KYB's with Intrax lowering springs..... So far, the ride is very nice.

That's just the nature of the beast - all our cars are that way when rear jacked up like that. Mayeb GM designed it that way in an attempt to replace the fuel pump easier

I dont think so. My car did not do that before the new springs and shocks went on. The shocks are just too long. I believe there is a company who sells a shorter shock for the rear with lowering springs.. (If you want an easy way to put in a new pump, just pull the rear carpet up and cut a nice hole in the trunk. Then, bolt in a plate over the hole and you got easy access to the pump. Worked on my camaro and my friends 93 formula)

Re: Rear shocks/spring problem..
That's what I'm saying - lower springs means they'll fall out easier when no pressure on them. Are you going to pull a Smokey and the Bandit and jump a bridge or something? What difference does it make when the car is back on all fours? The shock serves the same purpose regardless of it's length - it dampens the recoil rate of the spring - the spring is what controls the travel of the axle, not the shock. That extra bit won't make any difference on the road - the spring won't fall out after it has 3800 pounds of a$$ on it. Mine's the same way with the Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks - and so is everyone elses car that's been lowered.

Re: Rear shocks/spring problem..
if you hit a bump that big, springs will be the least of your concerns.
