Alston Subframe connectors [SOLVED]
Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
Anyone ever seen a set that doesn't run down the side of the car in that rocker/pan valley area?
That where my exhaust goes, its the only place you can find room to hide a bullet without having it all the way in the back or rubbin on the shaft.
[done had em in the back, didn't like it. They sounds better closer to the engine.]
Ignore most of the pic, that door has been replaced.

I only know of one place that has those. Click here
But I do think the perimeter style holds the car together better and the Alstons do stick down farther. If it's possible to have them and your current exhaust I would try.

Re: Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
No there isn't any extra room down the sides.
Those are what I need, a bit cheaper n powdercoat is free to boot.......
I can do the reverse of the kind that go down the sides to triangulate in some more points later.
Which is what I invsion in the end kinda.
I want the cabin to be boxed where it can but not in the way.
Those give me a good head start as a foundation I can fab off of though rather then reinvent the wheel

the perimeter style typically don't hang down much if any lower than the pinch welds...looks like you might have room for them. but, maybe not.

Re: Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
probably, mine are fully welded, you dont loose much ground clearance, they fit tight to the floor, probably never hit them on anything. I can jack up the car by the firewall subframe, behind the front tire and the rear wheel will come off the ground with the front. The perimeter ones do sit up farther though as stated earlier. They also make for a good jacking point.

Re: Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
When I welded up my interior when it was gutted, and then did my FP, I was shock as to how close I was welding to the fuel line, glad I didn't know; kinda. Scary as hell knowing after, would of made an awful mess.
For anyone watching once ya add things up the Alston Racing sub frames not only look better but save you enough over the rest that you can get the 3bolt wonderbar too from TDS for maybe $20-30 more in the end.
Which is what Im gonna do.
More for less is good.

Re: Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
How hard was it drilling the holes if so?
Almost like to avoid the jacking it 30ft in the air till they are bolted in.
Think I could just use 4 ramps, drive up on 2, jack up on 2, that way the car isn't hanging by the frame during bolt in.
I just think it would be flexing less that way.

TDS is an awesome site, they are gonna let me spread the cost over a few diff creditcards so I can get a set ASAP and not get rapped on cash advances.

Maybe you were to honest but that how I read it. Sorry if I miss spoke. Its how it came off but its hard to read the tone of emails.
----
But N E Ways its seems many hurdles have been put in place on purpose to steer me around.
I could never get into the Alston Racing order site, like a forum you need a special code after you register and I have yet to get it, so I can't order?
And now its down to Doug Herbert and hopful for a good reason.......

Hmmm. Lon of TDS is just about the nicest car guy I have ever met. He runs his business right. I suspect he was being honest in whatever he said and it was misinterpreted.

Re: Which Subframe connectors don't run down the sides?
Doug Herbert is the winner, they don't keep em in stock but they are dropped shipped right from Alston.
Ground shippng is free only a $9.99 handling charge.
Item total:$179.74
Shipping and handling:$9.99
Total:$189.73
For a savings of $40 in the end.
Which is very helpful as Im so close to ruin, it ain't funny, but I can't have my car start draggin in the middle like a beer gut.

Re: Alston Subframe connectors [SOLVED]
Good thing I saved $40 buying these, as I spent that fixing the fuel lines.
Tried to move em over an inch and the return springs a massive leak that will not stop for anything. Even used an air hose to blow backwards, could hear it bubbling in the tank but soon as I stopped it would start to siphon again.
So I had a lake of gas to get ride of to finish installign the left side to then tackle the lines.
I got bad heart burn from sucking all them gas fumes.
And yes IM just bolting them for now, gonna weld later, which seems like a good idea with all the gas fumes around.

Re: Alston Subframe connectors [SOLVED]
Ok what an adventure that was.
Some tips, have 2 bottle jacks to jack the ends in place tight to the body.
As you need to work around them, so a mini floor jack will get in the way.
a 90* drill adapter was also a must, which made it possiable to get to every hole sort of easy, a few of em I had to come at an angle but it still worked out fine. as you can't just drill straight through the other side, gotta do them all 1 at a time, though then I ran it through from the easy access side to make sure the bolt path was clear.
Id have a handful of washer on hand too, you just get bolts and nylon lock nuts with them, but I added washers on each end to spread out the load on the hole. And of course slathered in anti-sieze.
Though on the right front mount, back bolt I had to stack 2, so not to run out of threads.
And don't forget to check out other things like rear end fluid n such while you got it up in the air.

Re: Alston Subframe connectors [SOLVED]
I was asked about the fuel lines and no they don't need modded, only moved over a few inches during the install and if rusty like mine, will probably spring a leak.
Have the car low on gas if you have any conserns as the gas siphons out quick and will make for a fun adventure like mine.

Re: Alston Subframe connectors [SOLVED]
If I went out side to take one id melt, dam its hot
Lots of pics around on other cars, they are the ones you want if you only run 1 kind. They are inners are are just like what was used on the vert cars factory.
So you know its best right there.
Though if I had outter room Id also run a set of BMR ones but only for lets say backup, get Alstons first then consider more stuff.
this thread has pic's of both https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...-subframe.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exte...sub-frame.html But just 5 hrs after he posted in that thread that they were sold? That was his LAST post here on TGO. That kinda tells us something, huh?
And yes.....Everything I have found says they are 4th gen ones. I've never said otherwise after finding pics of a 4th gen with them on there.

They would only be unusable in their current form. with a welder and some extra steel you could make them work
