coil overs/wheel gap

let me start off by saying i've tried to search and find some answers but have been unsuccessful. i've been slowly working on this gta for three years, never driven it and bought it with out any drive train. so i don't have any reference on what my wheel gap would should look like. i installed spohn k-member, a-arms, coil overs, strut mounts and 17" vette wheels. the wheel gap is 2" but my coil overs are lowered as low as they go i would think it would be lower. there is no front clip installed but it wouldn't make that much diffrence. let me know what you think. am i just crazy or is it too high for spohn coil overs?

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

what length springs and rate are you using? my car sat lower than that with the coil-overs and i still have a couple inches of adjustment.

something is seriously wrong with you swap bar too, the end link is on a severe angle, and it looks like the bar is pushed to the passengerside a lot. Maybe its binding and causing this issue?

they are what was sent with the kit 12" 300# (12-300)
yeah i was curious about the sway bar too, it looks like that on both sides so it is centered. i almost think the a-arm mounts are too far out. it's the factory sway bar. i'll unbolt it and see what happens

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

17x9.5 wheels, 275/40r17 tires. there is weight in the car. the motor, trans, fuel tank, roll cage, seats are all in the car. i don't know how much the car weighs. i do not have any accessories on the engine, cooling system, front bumper, fenders or hood. but i highly doubt that any of that would make it drop that much. i'm still scratching my head on what is causing it

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

you still have a few hundred pounds to put back in the car, but it won't drop you 2-3", it takes a bit for the springs to settle and the car will drop abiit but thats still way to high for me, might need shorter springs

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

thats odd. I have 12" 325# springs up front with about another 2-2.5" of adjustment. Will take a few pics tomorrow when I get to the car.

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

i think the issue is definitely the lack of parts. The car still has a lot of pieces off of it and it will lower once they are all installed. Like Kat pointed out and i mentioned earlier, i had my car pretty low and stil have about 2" of adjustment, and my front end is pretty light

I agree. When the motor/trans and everything else was out, it looked like a 4x4.

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

this may be a dumb question but it doesn't hurt to ask...did you roll the car and/or bounce the front end. if the car was in the air and you just set it on the ground, the suspension probably is not in a normal resting position. I would guess you did though since the a-arm looks to be nearly parallel to the ground.

Re: coil overs/wheel gap

Did you tighten the A-Arm bolts with the weight of the car sitting on the tires, or was it on jack stands still??? Did you lube the suspension bushings before installing them????

it was on the ground with the weight. and i did use lube

i'm about 200 lbs and i stood on the wonder bar and it hardly moved. i don't think the front clip will lower it that much.

oh well thanks for all you inputs. i'll just wait to see what happens when i get it all together
