Drag struts on the street?
I've heard warnings about running 70/30 or 90/10 drag struts on a street car, but I was wondering how they really feel. My car is a total toy and only get a few hundred miles per year so I can live with something somewhat outrageous, but I don't want it to be undrivable on the street either. So, who has some of these and how does the car drive? Should I forget it and get regular struts? Or should I go for the 70/30s? Or even the 90/10s? Let me know. thanks.

if you do the swap, just remember that you converted to straight line suspension, and that it is not made to rip corners and you will be fine. it will pop up fast and easy and be slow to settle down.
just to give you an idea, i run the 90/10's, moroso trick springs and i dont have a front swaybar. i'd say it handles like stock. has some good body roll but i didnt make it handle turns.

i don't mind them really, my car has no sway bars at the moment (putting one back on the rear soon) and like was mentioned earlier, so long as you remember its not a corner carver anymore its not bad. no quick lane changes on the interstate either lol

I have adj. summit drag shocks in the rear, handles ok, better than stock. But, it really will shine on launch, esp with some good tires.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like these drag struts are not as bad as the warnings indicate. I have monster sway bars as part of the complete Spohn kit, so I bet a set of Lakewood 70/30s would be fine. I'll add the matching Lakewood rear 50/50s in the back. I want to do what I can to make the BFG Drag Radials hook, because I don't really want to step up to a bias ply DOT slick. My other choice for shocks was a set of the KYB AGX adjustables front and rear. But now I'm leaning toward the drag shocks again. Decisions, decisions...
So, how about the ride? Does it bounce up real far when you hit bumps or dips?

i don't know about front 70/30 and 90/10 (actually planning to buy them) but i use 50/50 lakewood in the back and they help a lot at launches even on street with Toyo T1-S tires

My front end is not affected, because I still have stock shocks and springs up there. But, besides a little more squat and a lot more digging in on launch, the rear acts normal. I will also say that you tell a difference in just going down the road and punching it with the rear shocks. No more waiting around for the rear end to catch up and go, it just automatically bears ahead and goes.

I just ordered the Lakewood 70/30s for the front and the 50/50s for the back along with the rest of the parts to complete my front end rebuild:
-Energy Suspension poly front control arm bushings (red, of course)
-Energy Suspension poly tie rod and ball joint boots (red, of course)
-Spohn zinc plated complete steering rack
-Spohn ball joints
-Spohn wonder bar (red, of course)
-Baer cross drilled, slotted, zinc plated DecelaRotors
-Baer DecelaPads
-Earl's stainless steel brake lines
-New bearings, seals and dust cap
I hope that tightens things up a bit. It was getting almost sloppy enough to change lanes on its own!

So how would 90/10s and skinnies feel on the street? I know curves would be alot slower, but how much higher will the front end go up leaving a stop light fast?

Dang all these posts on this thread are makin me want to change over to some 70/30's and 90/10's. i got the eibach drag launch springs on the car now so im hopin if i get a set of these i'll be able to hook and lift tires (hopefully) after the install

I finally got all my suspension stuff done and wanted to give an update. The Lakewood 70/30s for the front and the 50/50 rears are just fine on the street. It doesn't feel weird at all. And it hooks nicely at the track now. Maybe these helped.

What does hook nicely mean? Did you get any before and after 60ft comparison numbers?

By hooks nicely, I mean that it hooks period. Before it would just blast the tires off completely. Now I can actually use first gear. Maybe there are other factors at play, such as the BFG drag radials getting more worn, but something must be contributed to the shocks and struts. I'm pretty happy with it now. When I had stock suspension and regular street tires on Iroc wheels, I could spin at will under 80 MPH.
