17 inch drag front runners ie skinnies...
Anyone know of any drag racing rims that are 17 inches in diameter but in the vicinity of 3-5 inches wide? I am looking for a drag wheel setup on my car, but with large 13 inch rotors and baer calipers, it is required to run a 17 inch wheel. So far, the only decent front runner that I have seen is the Weld Alumastar, and at $568/rim it's a little too expensive for me right now. Thanks for any info!!

The links that you gave do not show any wheels. I believe that it is due to them being placed in an e shopping cart?? The page that I get says that no items have been selected for comparison.

the new billet specialty street lites are being offered in 17", but they are street wheels so they are slightly heavier than a "true" set of skinnies. i believe they are offered in 17x3.5 and 17x7 for the front, and they DO clear ls1/c5 brakes. i read this in a thread on ls1tech. i think dragwheelz.com sells them

Thanks for fixing the links red_dragon_85 but there lies 1 small problem...
If you look towards the bottom of the description, you will see that the wheels are designed for an anglia spindle mount which is found on those rail type dragsters and unfortunately will not work for me. But thanks for trying!

Hmm definitely an option to think about. 17x4.5 is about right. WIll those rims fit without spacers? CUrrently I am running 4th gen spec ZR1 replicas and I have Skulte adapters on all 4 corners.

i havent tried to fit them on my car yet. Dont have tires anymore, and never tried to fit them with the spare tires on the rim when i first got them. I'll have to check but I have a feeling they will need a spacer since they fit 4th gens pretty good

Re: 17 inch drag front runners ie skinnies...
Do you happen to know what kind of wheel style they are?(Prostar, Draglite?) I know that Greg Weld makes good stuff, and everything he has is pretty much the same as what is currently offered by Weld. I will have to search on ebay for a bit and see if I can find anything. Thanks for the heads up!

Never seen the drag stars in 17" but they did make the prolites, the one with the circle holes drilled around it. I dont like that style
Sorry no pics of these GTO spare wheels on my car, I just got them a few weeks ago and dont have tires for the fronts yet

Thanks for the link! I like the wheels made by Greg Weld, they are very high quality stuff. I remember trying to locate a set of those wheels a couple of months ago and kept coming up short. I guess Greg Weld had passed away, and they stopped making the wheels and it just so happened that the style of wheel that I like(similar to the Pro Star) were all out of stock. I will have to check into them again.

Re: 17 inch drag front runners ie skinnies...
A 1.7 inch spacer eh? Well, the adapters that I am using from Skulte are 2 inches due to the fact that I am using the Baer track system that uses 13 inch rotors. Probably very similar to the brake setup you are using from the corvette. So imagine if your front wheel GTO spares stuck out another .25 inches, would they tend to sit more flush with the fender? You wouldn't happen to be in a position where you could maybe snap a pic or 2 of how those wheels like look on your car? I'd love to see the fitment if possible. Thanks again.

Re: 17 inch drag front runners ie skinnies...
Another .25" wont make it flush with the fender. They still sit inward alot compared to the rears which are flush with the fender lip. I dont think i have pics of it but i'll look to see. The above 2 are the only ones i have at the moment and those are without the C5 brakes. I do not have the brake kit on the car just yet. The kit is suppose to move the brakes out 0.3" so it becomes 2" spacer in the end for use with my C6 vette wheels.
I think a 2.5" spacer would be more flush, maybe 3". hard to say from the top of my head. The car is in PA right now, i'm in TX so cant go look at it. Just going by memory, the few pics i do have, and video.
I will say this, the GTO wheels sit in about the same as regular 15x4 prostars without spacers. I would have wanted around 0.75-1" spacer for the prostars when i had them. 1.7" was too much and it would bottom out on the fender. Atleast when I go from street to strip i dont have to take spacers off with the GTO wheels.
