215/65R15 to....size?

92 Firebird. Stock 215/65R15 tires on the "honeycomb" rims. Having the rims refinished and then putting new tires on. I have read a number of the threads here which have helped alot and also checked out http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp.

I want to go with a little bigger tire, but don't want any issues with rubbing. What do you guys think of 235/60R15? They will be 1/10" taller and 8/10" wider than the stock tire size. This shouldn't be an issue, but what about the look?

Give me your ideas please?

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

What size fits best on the stock 15" rims beside the stock tire size?

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

since your sticking with 15" wheels...236/60/15 was a factory option 84-86 (I think those years are right....)

However, given the taller sidewall---cornering might suffer slightly. But you have 15" wheels...so it won't corner great anyhow.

You might think of 225/60/15 on the front..give it little crisper steering response.

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

225/60R15 on the front and 235/60R15 on rear? Fortunately, I have UMI's sfc, torque arm, pan hard bar, lca and front wonder bar. So, cornering is the best it can be with 15" wheels and most definitely better than when she was born, lol.

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

Another option:

245/60 R15 is 6/10" taller than stock and 1.1" wider than stock. This may be a better setup?

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

i have had 245/60/15's on stocks little scrub only on a hard lock turn

i rather put stocks size on the front and 255/60/15 on the back, gives it a nice look

i got stock all around now, but im fixin to put 255/60's on the back and keep stockers up front

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

don't go 245---unless you like real tall "truck like" side wall.

I stand by my 225/60s front and 235/60 rear. You'd barely notice any difference visually.

Looks like you have some nice hardware---why did you stick with the 15's??

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

Awesome. That would look good. Rears would be a full 1" taller than stock and 1.5" wider...

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

I actually don't need to stick with stock, just thought i'd save a little $$$ by having them blasted then coated. I've had a lot of powder coating done recently and he said he'd give me an awesome deal. About $60 per rim.

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

yea i got rid of the 245's because they are to tall for all around, ok just on the back

i like the look of the taller/wide one in the back and a smaller/skinny one in the front, thats why i go stock up front and 255/60 in the back

Re: 215/65R15 to....size?

I'm voting 225/60/15 fronts. For the rear I was going to say 275/50/15, but that doesn't seem to be made anymore. That leaves either 255/60/15's or 275/60/15's. After the few sets of tires I've had on mine, I will always put a bigger tire on the rear. I just hate the way these cars look with a taller tire on the front. My fronts are 155/80/15's that are 24.7" tall with rear tires either 26"(275/50/15) or the ones I'm looking to use 28" (325/50/15) tall.
