flaming river steering box?

I'm looking to get tighter steering and a firmer feel out of the steering just as if it were a rack and pinion out of a fourth gen. I've done some searching and found that flaming river makes a box with a rack and pinion valve spool that they claim gives it that tight firm feeling. Has anyone installed this box or driven a vehicle with?

Re: flaming river steering box?

I was wondering if anyone had interesting steering set-ups? Mine is feeling a bit loose (esp. compared to a new car) and I am wondering if it is time to replace/rebuild the steering box or go with an aftermarket unit. I really want the setup to be responsive and firm. Has anyone tried an rack and pinion conversion by any chance (Spohn sells one I think)? How did that feel? Just looking for some ideas here.

Re: flaming river steering box?

Well I have replaced all my steering linkage, upgraded my steering shaft with flaming river u-joints, and installed an A.G.R. 12:1 ratio box. The steering has never been tighter, but when my buddy lets me drive his 2000 SS, there is still no comparison to the feel of a rack and pinion, but I read in a few magazines that they say the flaming river box is an alternative to a rack and pinion conversion.

Yeah, all I see are those mag ads saying its good. But Id like hear from someone who really tried it on the field. Some here tried the AGR box, and came to the conclusion thats its not worth it... it felt loose after a couple of weeks/months, and even worse, it leaked.
