how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

I've spent 3 hours searching for a picture or an explaination on this and couldn't find an answer. My end links hit the bottom of my struts when I turn the wheel. I know now that they're to long, but want to be sure the bar is on correctly. PLEASE HELP!!!! Nitro

Re: how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

most bars ive dealt with for these cars are as such; the foremost section that goes between the two body mounts is arched, the arch faces down, so i guess its more like a dish. Other than that, just looking at the side of the bar in the wheelwell will tell you if its wrong, the bar goes under the frame, angles up and to the endlinks, if it was upside down, it would be aiming down and to the endlink.

after reading that i think im confusing myself a bit. Here is the only pic i could find in my stash that show the sway bar,\

this is on the right way, if you have it upside down you would know quickly, like i mentioned in your other post, i had the same problem as you with a set of addco swaybars.

here is another i found

Re: how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

Do you know if the bottom of your front struts completely clear the ends of the End-Links when you fully turn your wheels?

I've installed the Hotchkis spring set and now realize that I should trim the end links shorter than the 2 1/4" centers that are on the bar now. This Hellwig bar is full of bends and it's difficult to guage if it follows the shape you described. I suppose I'll just pull it off anyway and take a look at both sides. I can't find where I laid down my digital calipers, but it looks like the bar is 1 5/8ths" thick on the sides. I can't measure it up front as it presses up against my spohn steering brace. Thanks a BUNCH for the pic's; it is Mucho Appreciated! Nitro

In this thread you will see some closeups of the proper installation of the sawy bar, when it properly the end links will clear the struts, upside down they will hit the struts within the first inch to 2 inches

Re: how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

like i posted a few times before, i had the same problem with my car and the Addco swaybar, and there are not many people who actually make sway bars so i would not be surprised if they are manufactured by the same people. Its a problem with the bar. I have a Hotchkis bar now, its shaped quite differently and fit perfectly. no clearance issues at all.

Re: how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

Thank You Guys, This is much appreciated. Now I see what you mean about the Addco/Helllllll wiggy bar, it's shape is weird and I can see why it got accidently flipped. I've been trying to figure out what was going on for three straight months and was feeling depressed that I ever changed anything. Now I can go out and enjoy the damn thing! Nitro

Re: how do I tell if front sway-bar is upside down?

Yah; I've been looking over & over for the issue, thought it was due to the aggresive alignment, wrong part# installed. The only way to get it to 'grab' and shift the front wheel was when the vehicle was in motion (which makes way sense now). I'm getting tired of solving mystery after mystery with this b*&&#; I'll be glad when the new engine finally goes in and I can just drive it into a telephone pole.....
