83 firebird box onto 91 s-10, pitman diameter and steering stops ?
are the pitman shafts of a 91 s-10 box and an 83 firebird box the same diameter ? i did my best with a tape measure and both seem to be about 1 and 1/8" diameter, but i cant be for certain
both are power steering
the s-10 box is shot worn out and so i need the firebird one for the truck
my 82 trans am box has alot larger pitman arm shaft i know
anyone know for sure ?
this is a complicated subject and i tried searching on here for all these different related terms all to no avail
also would i need to remove the internal box stops in the 83 box to use it on the s-10 ?
if so then which pieces are they and where are they in the box exactly ? i have taken many saginaw boxes apart in the past in order to sell the pitman shafts but i have never noticed any stops ever
and what about the rag joint and input shaft ?
BTW, i saw threads here where ppl called the 82 to 84 s-series trucks the first gens and the 85-93 the second gens,
well actually all 93 and oldr are first gen
so.
but the little blazers were a year off on this
thanks for anything

As long as your S10 is 2WD, I don't see why you couldn't re-use the S-10 pitman, as it's a non-wear item on F-body & G-body (I assume it is also non-wear on the S/T trucks. The 4WD S/T have a different pitman.)

input/rag should match right up 83 to 91.

Re: 83 firebird box onto 91 s-10, pitman diameter and steering stops ?
ok thanks
i removed the 83 box wth the intermediate shaft and all together today
so there should be no internal steering stops/limiters inside the 83 base firebird box ?
hmmm
and yeah politics are funny like that haha
i confirmed that actually i was wrong on the s-series years
my neighbor has a 94 2wd s-10 blzer and its the old first gen body still
so blazers= 94-older and the pickups 93-older
for the first gen body
the full size trucks did something funny like this as well
87-91 k-5/jimmy, some 1 tons, and the burbs were the older body style -but with updates.. and the unique front grille design as well
