How hard is it to change shocks? (just had back surgury)
Hey guys, I'm 17, and last summer, I had to have my spine fused from T4 to L4 because I had scoliosis, and my upper spine was pushing my lung.
I have an 83 Camaro, and the shocks are all blown. I was wondering if I would be able to switch them out myself? I have the tools and the know how, but is there any part of the swap that is particularly demanding from your back? Because my spine doesn't bend at all anymore. I'm just trying to get an idea before I dive into anything head first. Thanks in advance.

If you could get the rear of the car up on jack stands and are able to get on a creeper you should not have a problem with the bolts on the rear end. They are 19mm nuts and are about a foot in from each rear wheel. I think that the hard part for you would be to get at the top nuts located on the inside of the trunk/rear seat of the car. Inorder to get these nut you will have to remove all the plastic pieces from the trunk, lower the rear seats, pull up the carpet to the rear seat, and remove the foam corners over the top shock nuts. Obviously I do not know your abilities, but I hope this helps.

Well I already have the entire car gutted so alot of that is already done. So basically, I would just have to remove that 19 mill on the bottom side, and whatever is on the top? THAT I can handle! Thanks.

If your interior is out, the hard part is done.
When I pulled mine, the stud that the 19 mm bolt goes onto was spinning as they are removable. I had to hold the back end with another wrench. Good luck.

sorry to here that man, thats awful. I don't know what condition yours is in, but mine was a bit weathered and the bolts didn't wanna move for mine, ended up using a grinder to get them off, but i did struggle with both of them using my back trying to get the bolts off underneath. Even tried impact, mine just didn't wanna say good bye to the car, lol. So just be careful...don't wanna do more damage than need be. The inside bolts should be a snap. Good luck and be safe!
