Uh...lemme look.
Here we go. Bottom left of the page.
On a side note, QA1 moved their rod end production to China, and some people have reported poor quality with the same part number rod ends they used to use. Here are the rod ends I'm going with when mine need replacing. JMXT-12.

Re: budget upgrade questions

I don't think so. I don't have them now. Might not be a bad idea, though.

What size are the wheels you have? How much are you looking to spend?

Re: budget upgrade questions

the OE 15's but they ended up being under warranty so they got knocked back down on the list but i plan on getting new rims and tires but i wanna do 1le or corvette brakes i dont wanna go much bigger than 16's but the rims would have to clear those brakes i wanna go with a set that look like the camaro 5 spokes but the cheapest with that look is like 400 a rim plus tires but i guess any 5 spoke would be considered for the right price

A great resource for researching tires is Tirerack. They have all the specs such as tire height and recommended rim width and tread width on tons of tires.

Re: budget upgrade questions

You can get new 17 inch C6s or ZR1s (and others) for about $500 shipped for the whole set. With 17s, you'll have a wider selection of tires and wider tires... but then you'll need spacers. Factory 16s can be found dirt cheap in some cases. Just try to get the lightest you can with whatever size you get.

As for tires, I've heard really good things about GoodYear Eagle GS-D3s. BFGoodrich KDW are supposed to be a good tire. Kuhmo Ecsta MXs are a good tire, but aren't very good in the rain. I've seen Falken RT-615 thrown around.

If you're planning on upgrading your suspension like you talked about in the beginning of this thread, then you'll want to ditch those 15" x 7's pretty soon. By keeping with your theme of budget, I would pick up a set of 16" x 8 iroc rims or 16" x 8 91 - 92 Z28 wheels. Like 91_5.7_TPI said you can find them for pretty cheap, I picked up a set for $150 locally. I'm running KUMHO ECSTA AST 245/50HR-16, which definitely are not the best performance tire. There was a night and day difference compared to the 215/65SR15 bfgoodrich Radial TA's that were on it before though. I'm not saying this is what you should run, but you should do some research and compare specs and sizes and price.

Re: budget upgrade questions

I've read most of the thread, I hope I didn't miss if you talked about this.

Both him and I have V6's, would the V8 lowering springs work? (Or do they have V6 lowering springs?)

Re: budget upgrade questions

They have V6 lowering springs. The V8 springs would work, but you wouldn't set very low being as they are designed for the weight of the V8.
If you can swing it, get some ground control weight jacks. Gives you about 3 inches of ride height adjustment and whatever spring rates you want.

Re: budget upgrade questions

I have an 84 T/A and I went with Hotchkis Lower Springs (dropped ride height about 1.5", Hotchkis Front and rear sway bar, and a polyurethane bushing kit from Performance Suspension Technologies. I've since bought weld in sfc from Spohn but can't find a shop that is willing or has the capability to do the job (the car must be on it's wheels...set at ride height). I also put on a wonderbar from Top Down solutions.

From Launching to cornering it handles so much better! I am getting a "grunt" sound from the back of the car when I go over some bumps if I have a lot of weight in the car but can't identify it so I don't know if it's tires rubbing of the Poly bushings "squeaking". NO damage yet and the tires are fine so for now, I"m chalking it up to "Car sound unidentified" LOL!

The Hotchkis springs are really stiff though so if you're not up for the "Feeling the road", they're not for you. My wife HATES how it rides now. I also have an as of yet unidentified clicking in my steering when I go full-lock to the right since I"ve done my suspension mods. I can't find the sourse of it so I hope I'm not damaging anything too much while I try and figure out what it is.

The thing that's probably holding me back is that I didn't change the shocks with everything else. I had just replaced my worn out originals with a set of Monroe Sensa-track shocks 4 months before so I really couldn't justify changing them again so soon. However, I think that after finding a shop in Utah where i'm moving to install the SFC's, I'm going to upgrade the shocks.

Re: budget upgrade questions

Upgrading the shocks will really help the car. It'll make about a big of a difference in the car as the rest of the stuff. Well, as long as you replace them with a good set.

Re: budget upgrade questions

You could look for a quicker ratio steering box. I changed mine out, even though it was only about a quarter turn quicker, I noticed a huge difference in turning.

Re: budget upgrade questions

With lowering spring those monroe's won't have a very long life span. You'll definitely want to get yourself some quality struts and shocks pretty soon. The grunt from the rear might be your sway bar pivoting in the poly bushings. Hopefully you when you got the new sway bars you also upgraded to greasable sway bar bushings and can give them a quick shot of grease.
