max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
i need to know what is the biggest size tire i can put on a stock wheel without having to use spring spacers, i currently have 215/65/15 on the front with a 7" wide wheel, and 255/60/15 on the back with a 8" wide wheel with the back end slightly raised to clear the tire when you hit huge bumps (there are alot of them here LOL) i want to go back with 215/65's on the front, but on the back i want the widest i can go with, using stock ride hight i'd like the back tire to be a little taller than the front if possible, if not then the same overall hight, BTW i will be running stock 15" camaro wheels.
also id like to restore the wheels before the install, i seen dupli color and plasti cote have wheel paint, anyone know what one of them is closest to the stock color.
and did the stock lug nuts have a black plastic cover or were they chrome? i allready got a source for the factory center caps so im ok there, and thanks to a good friend/ other member i got the wheels coming to me
thanks for any help guys

If that rear combo was rubbing at stock hight, the wheels must not have much backspace at all. Are you just going for wide, or tall and wide?

I've read that if you get a 4th gen rear end that you can run 315/30R17s on a 17x11 ZR1 with no other modifications.

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
There's nothing wrong with running spacers. I'm running 1.5" spacers on all 4 corners. I have 17x9.5" rims in front and 17x11" rims in rear with 275s and 315s front and rear. I did nothing but tap the bottom of the rear wheelwells, and grind a tab off my front struts.

Spacers can suck though.
I have spacers on the front of my car so the GTA rims can clear the LS1 brakes. This makes it so the wheel rubs on the fender well on the back side in the hard turn. It's wearing a hole through that plastic.
I've also heard that spacers are a liability at speed...
I would avoid them if given the choice.

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
id like to have it a little wider than stock, i'm ruunning stock up front, but want some more meat on the back, it can be as high as a stock tire but wider, or can be a little taller and wider than stock, either way its going on a stock 15" camaro wheel.
does anyone know about the color of stock lug nut and the exact, or close to exact color of the stock wheel

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
depends on the offset of the rim you are using.......
----------
If properly used spacers are no liability at all. its all rumors. You have to use good wheel studs, and make sure the surfaces are clean and flat. IF those criteria are met spacers are not an issue. If you're wearing a hole in your inner fender, thats a fitment issue on your part, not the spacer's fault. I should also make clear that I'm NOT talking about spacers the slide over your original lug studs, I'm talking about spacers that bolt to the hub, and then your wheel bolts to the spacer.

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
I'm running a 2" bolt on spacer on the front of my car to clear the 275s up there.
Why are you wanting to stay with the stock 15s? If you change the diameter of the rear wheels, you will through off your speedometer and odometer.
You can with a 4th gen rear. I've read that LT1 rears are longer than the LS1 rears.
Here's a shot of my car with the 275s with the LT1 rear, no spacers. The offset of the 17x11s is a little different if I remember correctly. The outside of the tire sets a little further to the outside of the wheel wells so it will clear inside.

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
all ready thrown it off with the 255's i got now, not to worried about it, will solve that problem when i get the eaton carrier in the rear and swap out speedo gears and all, but im going from aftermarket 15X7 in the front and 15X8 on the back to stock 15" camaro wheels as would come stock on an 89 RS or the earlier Z28's would a 255/60 rub with the stock wheel?? i know it would bottom out with the 8" wheel when you hit a big dip in the road, but the back space could be in a little more i think. the type of wheel im going to be using OEM 15" 5 spoke

stock wheel is 15x7 to my knowledge. mine is a weld prostar 15x8 with 4.5 inch backspace. i would think you could put a 255 on without a problem.

A 255/60 will work fine on the stock wheel. I have seen people run a 275/60 on a 7inch wheel, but it just looks too wide for the rim.

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
cool cool, yea my back space is wrong on my 15X8 i guess, shows what tire pros know!!!! when i ordered the wheels i told them i wanted 7 on the front and 8s on the back, with the big tires on the back and smalls up front, and when i went to pick the car up it was all kinds of screwed up the had 8" on one side and 7" on the other, should of been my first clue to tell them to shove it, then the alignment was another story, they told me that my whole front end had to be replaced.........i didnt that about 8k before the tires, and they could never ge the stearing wheel stright, claimed you couldnt it stright because it was an aftermarket stearing wheel, so after alot of "choice words" with them i wound up paying only for tires and wheels, not install or alignment fee. but with all that trouble, i can see why my back space was wrong, but i got a buyer for the wheels, and he knows the back space is wrong, but he want his back end higher for the stace, so it dont bother him to raise the back end, so i guess that solves it 255/60 on the back, with 215/65 on the front, on the stock wheels

Re: max tire size/ stock wheel color/ lug nut type
got my stock wheels sunday, they have 245/60 on them, going bigger when i get the money, but looks like i got room to go bigger than 255/60 so i may, def. going back to stock size up front, dont like that big of a tire up front, so not worried about the color issue anymore as the wheels are 98% mint
