Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

koni sports, the yellow adjustable ones, are great shocks, probably the best you can do for an over-the counter part. though they are not cheap, usually 250 and up each for the fronts and about 200 each for the rears

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

They aren't the best you can buy, but as far as I know they are the best in the sub-$2000 catagory. I have KONIs and Eibach on my car, and while I want to replace the springs, the KONIs aren't going anywhere for years to come. The cheapest I've found for the Yellows is 226 per front and 105 per rear. I'd say with shocks springs and the right tires, you won't have any trouble dusting him.

Does that mean Koni Yellows have a harsh ride on an otherwise stock car?

I've actually been to a place like that before... not that I stayed very long.

The Bilsteins are also a performance shock, but not as much so as the KONIs. And, they aren't adjustable. I've set my KONIs to full soft all around recently after having them set about halfway since purchase, and I have to say that they are a comfortable ride in most circustances. On really uneven road with lost of patches/potholes, you'll know they are a performance shock and you're not in a Caddy. But, on the highway at high speeds or for high speed cornering, I wouldn't have anything else.

I don't think the KONIs would be 'harsh' on a stock car. More stiff than 18 year old worn out stockers for sure (or even replacement stuff from AutoZone), but the gains in cornering and controlability would, in my opinion, greatly outweigh the slightly stiffer

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

do you think the konis and an eibach combo are equal to a coil over suspension

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

Yeah are Spohn's coil-overs worth the extra $300-400 more than the Koni Yellows? What are the differences?

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

I don't know. I've never really read anything on them vs KONIs. From working on my friends Integra, I know coilovers are PITA compared to what we have. I'm sure there are some advantages to a conventional set-up, but for the extra $300-$400 you could get a posi rear end with disk brakes.
I picked up a 4th gen 3.23 posi with disks for $300.

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

the coil-overs actually sit ON the struts, so you have a Koni sport strut for example with a coilover setup on it, so you need to buy both, so it get expensive, a benefit is they more the roll center out further, and they adjust quite easily

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

Front KONIs+ front coilover = about $1100....ouch
Looks nice though. That does look alot easier to adjust than the Ground Control weight jacks I was looking into. Still hella pricey though, and the rear still isn't height adjustable. I may try it sometime (in the distant future) though. Wonder if the rear coil overs work with KONIs...

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

would the konis and eibach kit be able to handle like a corvette, or would you need sub frame connecters strut tower brace ect.....

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

I've just heard bad things about QA1`s for handling is the reason I was wondering about the rears.

Depends on the Corvette. C5 and C6 Z06s would be pretty hard to beat, but most C4s (maybe base C5s??) and before would be beatable with KONIs and springs. SFCs should still be installed on the car though. Most agree that they should be installed on the car even if you only plan to use the car as a commuter. I really need a set.

Re: Are koni sports good handling shox

I have the Koni yellows and Eibach pro springs package(from Shox)together with some other goodies like Lakewoods rear end stuff and Edelbrocks strut tower brace polybushings in chassie and runs on pair with original slightly modded Porsche 944S/Turbos around short cone tracks,i am not a good driver so not bad for such a hwy car.
I have the back set to middle hard and the fronts i have in softest while in highway mode and on the track i set the front to hardest works nice.
But over here in Europe we like our cars rather stiff, maybe thats a bit to hard for US roads overall no problem on the highway.

regards Mats
