255 or 275's on a 15 inch rimm???

i know 275's r pushin the 15 inch rim limit, but i really want a wide tire. Its a daily driver, but ido take it to the races when i get my chances. I am not worried bout tire wear, for i am a college student with no bills. lol Please and thankyou

If you want a really wide tire and have no bills, get wheels of the proper width. It's hard to directly advise when so much information is missing (your current wheel width, desired tire profile), so I'll refer you to the tirerack.com site. Look on the 'Specs' pages for models of the tires of the size(s) that you're interested in. Best acceleration traction for any given tire probably comes with wheels at or within 1/2" of the "Meas. Rim Width". Better cornering/handling comes with wider wheels, better ride with narrower. Mounting tires on wheels narrower than the narrow end of the given range is not a good idea for anything but very temporary use when there is no alternative.

depending on the height of the tire and wheel width you should have no problem putting 275's on the rear. just do a little home work.

I know this may be a dumb question, but I have narrowed my tires down to 3 different ones. The uniroyal gt The bf T/A's or the indy 500 ---- im leanin toward the 500's

Go with the 275's. You won't see much of a difference between the width of a 275 and a 295 mounted on an 8 inch rim. If you mounted the 295 on a 9 inch rim and compared it to a 275 on an 8 inch rim then there would be noticeable difference.

you want about 1/4-1/2" of clearance.. you have to mount them and see what needs to be done.. i just go by, if i can fit my finger in the space, its good.. never did rub..

Re: 255 or 275's on a 15 inch rimm???

I ran some 275/50’s on some 0 offset rims, basically what you have there with no issues at all, I ran some 275/60’s with a ½” offset (in) and didn’t have any issues except the inside front corner of the tread that was touching just enough to show a clean spot after about a week of driving that I quickly cleaned up with a couple of hits with a hammer.
