Intermediate steering shaft coupler, Help!
I need some help and advice please! I'm working on my 87 IROC. The part that I need to fix, replace or beg for is the shaft between the steering box and the steering column. The rag joint is okay but the upper joint where it joins to the steering column shaft is shot!
GM has discontinued this part, which was shown as an assembled unit. The individual parts to rebuild it are also discontinued.
So, what to do? Can I disassemble the upper joint and replace it with salvage yard parts? Or, should I just look for a complete, hopefully good enough, used steering coupler assembly and skip hasseling with trying to rebuild my old unit?
Anyone used the Borgeson steering shaft u-joints as a fix? If so, what size?
Thank you for your time and advice!

Re: Intermediate steering shaft coupler, Help!
I just did it to mine off of a refer of parts list from another member. It worked great. Bouight the three parts from Flaming River @ summit racing.
FLA-FR1746DD $64.95 Uninversal joint/30 spline x 1inchDD (Attaches to steering box and 1 inch end of shaft)
FLA-FR1856-S $103.95 Steering shaft / 1 inch DD x 3/4inch DD telescopic
FLA-FR1717DD $64.95 Universal Joint/ 3/4 DD x 1 DD (attaches from new shaft to steering column on firewall)
Installation cutting length tip- Colapse the shaft with one end fitted and mark the other cut point with the second universal joint overlayed where the entire colapsed shaft from u-joint to u-joint is 16 inches long overall- once cut to this colapsed length, it will fit into the positin of the original intemediate shaft and then extend onto the box on the upper column.
So the overall length of the finished shaft AND both u-joints attached at each end is 16 inches at colapsed length including the length of the u-joints

Re: Intermediate steering shaft coupler, Help!
The idea of improving the couplers and shaft appealed to me also but in the end, I went the lesser expensive route and salvaged a good used part.
Thanks for the advice and feedback.

Re: Intermediate steering shaft coupler, Help!
I'm diagnosing front end problems right now - how did you know this part was bad?
