Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
What size tires would you guys run with these wheels to stay close to OEM diameter?
18x9.5
18x10.5
I considering 245/45/18 or 245/40/18 for the front and 275/40/18 for the rear.
What do you guys think. I want the least possible chance of rubbing. I already used the tire calculator but I want to know what you guys think?
Thanks in advance,
Jay
If you guys have similiar wheels sizes list what you are using.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
for an 18" you would want a 40 or 35 series tire..
265/35-18 is 25.3" tall
265/40-18 is 26.3" tall
275/35-18 is 25.6" tall
275/40-18 is 26.6" tall
285/35-18 is 25.9" tall
285/40-18 is 27.0" tall
295/35-18 is 26.1" tall
for the 9.5" rims, go 275/35-18
for the 10.5" go either the 285/35-18 or the 295/35-18
go big or go home

I've got 275-35-18 on the front and 295-35-18 on the rear. No rubbage.
This is on the early style vette wagon wheels. 18x9.5 I think.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
Thanks guys.
I will probably be going with this combo:
Front: 275/35/18
Rear: 295/35/18
Now, hopefully I can find those sizes in the tires I want.
Iansane,
Do you have any pics of your setup?
Thanks again,
Jay

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
I've just got pictures of when I had the 17's on the front. None with the 18's. Busted my digi cam.
What tires do you want to go with? What wheels are you going with? You might be able to go wider in the rear with some massaging...
I'm using the BFG KDW2, the new tread design. It's lowered on sportlines with a quarter coil cut in front.
EDIT: Found one cell phone picture with the 275s in front and the older 255s on the ground next to the car.

and a rear shot with the 295s.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
I'm not even sure what tires I want to get with now. Since some of the tires I am looking at are not available in both sizes.
I'm going with the Z06 wheels.
Tire list:
General Exclaim
Firestone Wide Oval
Pirelli P-Zero Nero
Kumho Ecsta
Just to name some.
If you guys have any suggestions let me know. Cause I would hate to have mismatching tires on the front and back.
Thanks,
Jay

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
I've got 295's on my 18x9.5" rear wheels. They dont stick out too far. You can do 275 or 285 on the front and 305 or 315 on the 10.5" wheel if you want.
Here's a pic of the rear wheels.

The fronts have 275's on a 17x8.5" wheel. It is a tad too much. 265 would be better to match my rears.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
Thanks for pictures.
After looking at a few pics plus comparing prices and performance of some tires. I will probably be going with Sumitomo HTR Z II
265/35/18 for the front
285/35/18 for the rear
I been looking at tirerack.com and I they have only a few matches for these tire sizes and all the other brands are very expensive.
I was going to go with...
275/35/18 Front
295/35/18 Rear
But like I said due to performance and price, I've changed my mind.
Thanks again,
Jay

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
Thats the problem with big wheels. You pretty much have to buy the really exspensive tires.
Those sizes you want are a little too small for the rim. The sidewalls will go inwards after the lip of the wheel. 275 is flush on a 9.5" and 305 is flush on a 10.5" rim.
You can buy the sizes you picked as long as its not a problem for you. They'll look funny and you'll have to be careful parallel parking. No extra sidewall to protect you wheels.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
Since this thread is already made, i'll use it to ask my question. I am looking at a set of 18" rims that are made for 4th gens and I don't know if they will fit properly on 3rd gens. Please someone let me know, here's the specs:
Front Size: 18x8.5
Rear Size: 18x9.5
Bolt Pattern: 5x120
Front Lip Size: 2-3/4"
Rear Lip Size: 3-1/2
Front Offset: +35
Rear Offset: +45
Any help would be awesome.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
Scarfache,
The rims will fit but you will have to get spacers.
Matt_p,
I see what your saying when it comes to price and after looking at the specs of the 265's and 285's I also see what you mean with it comes to rim width. Anyway, I guess I will have to pay more and get the 275's up front and 295's in the rear.
Thanks,
Jay

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
I’m having problems finding 305 and 315 widths in stock for 18’s that have tire heights taller then the tires that I want to run on the front 17’s, and I’m worried about them ending up looking funky if I end up with the same tire height, like if I did a 255/45/17 on the front and 295/35/18 on the back (should both be 26.1” tall), any suggestions?
It's a bit too wide for a 8.5" wide wheel. Sidewall can collapse outwards in hard cornering. A 265's sidewall height better match my 295's on the rear. It wouldn't bulge out as much either.

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
matt_p,
Are you saying that the...
275/35/18
295/35/18
combo won't look right either?
Will the sidewall match?
Thanks,
JAy

Re: Opinions on Tires size for 18" rims
The rear tire sidewall will be about 1/4" taller. It'll look ok. Its when the front tires sidewall looks larger than the rear that it looks funny.
