South Side Machine Subframe Connectors

Guys,

These are NO LONGER AVAILABLE, so who makes good SQUARE Weld In subframe Connectors?? NOT the Cheesy Sphon's or Alston's either..

Guys that RACE thier TTA's have said that ONLY square Tubing is the BEST!!

Thanks!!

Here we go again- An expert on cheese- yet, has to ask - yet, knows the expert racers that do recommend them- yet, those expert racers can't help him.

Search on round Vs. square topic. You may learn something on stuctural design when trying to use square tubing without a ladderbar type contruction.

so ask the TTA guys

Chances are that you're not making enough power to exceed the limits of the Cheesy round SFC's anyway so what's the big deal?

Well, I cannot comment on whether or not round tubing is more rigid than "boxed" steel, but I would imagine that boxed steel would be the stronger of the two. By how much, I don't know, but I think it's safe to bet that whichever design is "stronger" - It wouldn't be noticible for 99.99999% of those using it.

If for no other reason, I prefer boxed steel SFC's over round because they can double as a jacking point on our cars. (I hate having to jack up my car from the differential housing and/or kmember)

To answer your question though, UMI seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity on this forum and they truly do look like an excelently designed piece. I'll probably be picking up a set myself in the next few weeks. They'll run you $200US

Link: UMI Performance Inc.

Hotckis also makes SFC's in boxed steel for our cars though they're nowhere near as popular for some reason.

They're a bit more expensive though compared to the UMI version. These will run you roughly $230US

Choice is yours, but these are your only two options if you insist on going with boxed steel.

Hope this helps.

I am personally running Alston's an like them a LOT.
I like the look of the tube-style better. They also hve GREAT clearance.

They connect directly from the rear to the front frame. Connecting from the outside part(rocker-area) and coming across to meet the frame just does not seem like it would be as strong to me...just my

hope you find what you like.....

I hate to hear that they're no longer available. I have a set on my Formula and had them on my to do list whenever I get to purchase a T/A.

there's guys running 10's and 9's on the alstons and the spohns. I've seen the BMR's on a low 8 sec drag radial car.
- So basically what you're saying is that you're more worried about adding extra weight for no reason?
