Oversteer after front end rebuild.....help
Excuse me if I don't explain this right.
I finally got my car back together and took it out on the road tonight for a quick drive. I realize I need an alignment badly, but owuld this cause oversteer(where the car turns more than i give the wheel)?
Let me tell you what Ive done to the car so you have a good idea. 91 RS with F41 suspension. I kept the F41 springs. I upgraded to 36/24 sways, 1LE end links, poly sway bushings, all new MOOG tie rods, ball joints, centerlink, idler arm, all with poly boots. I put in KYB GR2 fronts, gas a just rears, polyurethane front and rear control arm bushings, tds wonderbar.....I believe that is it.
Anyways, would an alignment fix this oversteer problem? I know I need an alignment BAD, even though I tried to get the new parts as closely as I could with the old parts. I noticed that my front wheels have a slight positive camber right now.
I just want to make sure I didn't mismatch anything and that this would be normal for a car that needs an alignment.
Thanks....

Just a wild guess but i thought the same with my car till i realised that its not over steer but actually seeing the cars true ability to turn with a fresh suspention Vs. a wornout crappy one. hell i replaced every wear component on my front susp. but the swaybar to frame bushings and i thought i had something wrong to. i had gotten so used to having to turn way the hell into the turn to make it that when i did so after the rebuild i had to let out some cause the car was turning so well. now i can out turn half of the Z's and IROC's here in town cause they all have the old wornout suspentions still.
Also i would make a good guess that the old steering components were worn to where you had to input more steering than you do now cause you probably had slop in the old stuff. I dubout you will loose the sharp/fast turning you now have, i bet you will actually gain some once the wheels are actually making full contact with the road.

i would just have to say you bought to stiff of a rear bar. Put the stock rear swaybar back on it for the day and see how it treats ya.

Check to see if it is toed out. That will loosen it up.
Re check you tire pressures.
Make sure the wheels are on the correct end.
Putting the rears on the front and vise versa will loosen the car up due to a wider front track width.

Tire pressure was fine, wheels are on the correct end.
I'll wait till I get an alignment before I change anything.
Why would the rear sway bar be too stiff? Isn't that the combo that the IROC and GTA's came with? I really don't wanna go back to the tiny 21mm.....

Oversteer, as it's related to racing is the act of the rear end of the car breaking loose or sliding before the front end requiring you to turn the wheel back in the oposite directionto keep the car from spinning.
Your not out there trying to take turns at full speed after a rebuild are you? I think what your describing is the car darting in the direction that you turn the wheel. This is probably caused by too much toe in. Get it aligned before you get too freaked out.

No, I wasn't taking turns at full speed. I just took it around the block a couple times at like 15-25mph......
It just felt like I barely had to turn the wheel and the car would turn a lot. Maybe I'm just imagining things.
I'll post an update when it gets aligned this week.

It ended up being the steering box adjustment. When I got it aligned I told them to adjust the box.
She handles GREAT now.
I think it was also a mix of being used to my 240sx with the independent suspension and switching to the solid axle.
But the steering box and alignment helped out drastically from the way it felt before. It was almost scary to take a turn fast.
